Free training from UFPB enhances the qualification of Nursing technicians in strategic areas of SUS, with thousands of spots for EAD courses focused on urgency, intensive care, and surgical centers, including recognized professional certification and a workload distributed among theory, practice, and virtual activities.

The Federal University of Paraíba opened 5,000 free spots for Technical Professional Specialization courses in Nursing offered in distance learning mode through the National Technical Training Program for SUS, nationally known as FormaTec SUS.

According to the public notice released by the Professional and Technological Center of UFPB’s Technical Health School, the initiative aims to enhance the qualification of Nursing technicians who already work or wish to work in sectors considered strategic for public health assistance.

Among the areas covered are segments that concentrate high demand within hospital networks and specialized care units, especially services related to urgency, emergency, neonatal intensive therapy, and procedures performed in surgical centers.

Registrations were free and carried out exclusively online, through the university’s Integrated Academic Activities Management System, following the official schedule established by the institution for the participation of interested candidates.

UFPB Nursing Specializations Cover High-Demand Areas in SUS

The distribution of spots occurred among four technical specialization courses linked to FormaTec SUS, each focused on a specific area of health assistance and on activities frequently required in daily hospital routines.

The Nursing in Surgical Center and Surgical Instrumentation course concentrated 1,500 spots, the same quantity made available for the specialization in Urgency and Emergency with emphasis on Pre-Hospital Care, known by the acronym APH.

Meanwhile, two other training programs received one thousand spots each, namely Nursing in Adult Critical Patient Care and Nursing in Neonatal Critical Patient Care, an area related to the intensive monitoring of newborns.

The final classification of participants occurred according to the criteria established in the public notice, considering submitted documentation, professional scoring, and mandatory requirements defined by the institution responsible for the selection process.

Free EAD Courses Will Have Theoretical, Practical, and Virtual Content

Each specialization has 300 hours of training, distributed among theoretical activities, supervised practical sessions, and exercises developed in the Virtual Learning Environment, a tool used by the university for academic monitoring of selected students.

Of this total, 225 hours correspond to the theoretical content taught throughout the course, while another 48 hours are dedicated to practical activities carried out in scenarios compatible with the area chosen by the participant.

In addition to supervised practice, the public notice also provides for 27 hours dedicated to case study resolution, analysis of clinical situations, and participation in academic activities developed directly on the training’s virtual platform.

According to the rules disclosed by UFPB, the courses have a minimum duration of four months, although the maximum completion period may vary between eight and 12 months, depending on the academic organization and the pace of completion.

Professionals who already have proven experience in the chosen area or training certificates with a minimum workload of 48 hours may request partial exemption from the practical activities foreseen in the official course schedule.

Even in these cases, participation in activities related to the Virtual Learning Environment remains mandatory, a stage considered essential for the analysis of problem situations and the consolidation of content covered during the technical specialization.

Nursing Technicians Needed to Prove Regularized Training

The selection was exclusively for candidates who completed a recognized and regularized technical nursing course in Brazil, by presenting a diploma, certificate of completion, and other documents required by the university.

In addition to proof of professional training, participants also needed to attach personal documents, updated proof of residence, and legible digital files in PDF format within the official registration period established in the public notice.

During the classification analysis, the university primarily considered the professional experience of candidates, especially those already working in public health units directly related to the chosen specialization during registration.

In this context, professionals linked to public sectors related to emergency, intensive care, critical care, or surgical centers received higher scores in the simplified selection process organized by the UFPB Technical School of Health.

On the other hand, candidates without experience in public health services or who were not yet in the job market were evaluated according to the grade obtained in the supervised internship of the technical Nursing course.

FormaTec SUS also reserved spots for affirmative action

The public notice established a reservation of spots for groups covered by affirmative action policies adopted in federal educational institutions, following criteria provided by current Brazilian educational legislation.

Opportunities were reserved for Black people, Indigenous people, Quilombolas, people with disabilities, and trans people, in addition to the application of rules related to students who completed their entire high school education in public schools.

At the same time, candidates registered in the reserved modalities also participated in the general competition, allowing classification to occur simultaneously in different groups provided for in the federal university’s selection process.

If certain reserved spots were not filled due to the absence of qualified candidates or valid documentation, the public notice provided for redistribution according to the academic and administrative rules adopted by the institution responsible for the selection.

How to apply for UFPB’s free Nursing courses

Applications for the free technical specialization courses in Nursing were made exclusively online, using the Integrated Academic Activities Management System of the Federal University of Paraíba during the period defined in the official schedule.

The deadline began on April 27th and continued until May 10th, 2026, closing at 11:59 PM Brasília time, as established by the public notice published by the institution’s Professional and Technological Center.

At the time of registration, each participant could choose only one of the specializations offered by the university and attach all required documentation in a legible digital format for electronic registration validation.
