Tesla Electric Car Goes Through Adaptations To Become “Tesla Submarine” In Video For YouTube Channel And Surprises Internet Users
In an analysis by Uncle Chet from the YouTube channel Chillin’ With Chet, a super battery of tests similar to those conducted on off-road vehicles was performed on a Tesla Model S Plaid, currently considered the fastest electric car in the world in terms of acceleration. The so-called ‘Tesla submarine’ was about two inches away from being completely covered by water, with only a few adaptations made to achieve such a feat.

Tesla Electric Car Is Submerged In Water
In a way, it’s much better to submerge an electric car in water than conventional models, as electric cars do not have exhausts, so the motors won’t be flooded, entirely eliminating the need for a snorkel.
The entire electrical part of the Tesla Model S Plaid is protected from the environment, just like in conventional cars, to prevent the car from short-circuiting when crossing a puddle on the street, or when coming into contact with rain or quick washes.

Mitsubishi confirms the triumphant return of a car beloved by Brazilians that was discontinued after almost 40 years, based on the Triton, 4×4, and targets rival Toyota Land Cruiser in a plan of 13 SUVs.
The main adaptation made was to protect the cabin of the Tesla Model S Plaid, precisely because, unlike off-road vehicles, the Tesla’s cabin was not designed to be flooded. However, the protection became a significant issue.
The Model S Plaid could only sink after swapping the seats for 3,175 kg in weights used for weightlifting, which served as ballast. This caused its total weight to increase to 5,897 kg.
Problems During The Sinking Of The Tesla
Despite the weight added to the Tesla, the front of the car still floated uncontrollably, so the initial idea of using plastic to protect the front compartment had to be discarded.
One of the test collaborators used a utility knife to remove all the plastic, and soon after, the front submerged. After achieving this, YouTuber Chet entered with his car carefully. With the removal of the plastic, the protection of the ‘Tesla submarine’ fell short, as some water ended up entering through the vehicle’s door.
At the end of the tests, the Tesla Model S Plaid triggered a “water damage” alert, refusing to operate. However, 24 hours later, after drying naturally, the electric car returned to normal operation, according to the YouTuber.
Power And Price Of The Tesla Model S Plaid
The Model S Plaid is synonymous with success, regarded as the fastest car from Tesla, boasting 1,020 hp of power, sufficient to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just a few seconds, allowing it to outperform major models like the Bugatti Chiron (0 to 100 in 2.4 seconds).
In terms of prices, the Model S Plaid costs only a fraction of a high-end car. The Bugatti Chiron has been purchased for about € 3.2 million (US$ 3.7 million), while the Model S Plaid is priced at US$ 130,000, reaching 1 million here in Brazil.
