The Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ) opened applications for the specialization in Neuroeducation, a free and in-person postgraduate course.
The offering is regulated by the Public Notice No. 28/2025 and is expected to start in the first semester of 2026. A total of 20 spots will be available, divided between general competition and affirmative actions.
According to IFRJ, the aim of the program is to bring closer the advances of neuroscience and educational practices.

The curriculum aims to deepen the understanding of the cognitive processes that impact learning and provide tools for direct application in the classroom.
The duration is 18 months and classes will be taught by instructors with experience in research that combines science and education.

Free Course Focused on Inclusion
As this is an initiative of a federal public institution, there are no tuition fees or enrollment fees.
The free offer applies for the entire period of training. Of the 20 open spots:
- 12 are for general competition.
- 6 are reserved for black, brown, indigenous, or quilombola candidates.
- 1 spot is for people with disabilities.
- 1 spot for transgender candidates or transvestites.
IFRJ states that this division follows the institution’s affirmative action policy, ensuring diversity in the student body.
Who Can Participate
Graduates in any field can apply, provided that their diploma is recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC).
It is required that, at the time of enrollment, the student has already completed their undergraduate degree and has graduated.
This requirement applies even for those who are still in the process of completing their college degree at the time of application.
How the Selection Will Be Made
The selection process will have an eliminatory and classificatory nature. The first stage corresponds to the analysis of required documents stated in the public notice.
Then, candidates will be evaluated based on a letter of intent and an interview, both scoring between 25 to 50 points.
The sum of these two scores will define the final classification. In cases of competition for reserved spots, there will be a verification procedure to confirm self-declaration.
Only those approved in all stages may finalize their enrollment.
Objective of the Specialization
According to IFRJ, the course was structured to meet the growing demand for professionals who understand the cognitive mechanisms of learning and know how to apply them in educational contexts.
The aim is to offer a solid theoretical foundation, combined with pedagogical practices that consider how the brain processes information, memorizes content, and develops skills.
The institution emphasizes that the specialization in Neuroeducation is not limited to basic education teachers.
Professionals from related fields, such as psychology, pedagogy, speech therapy, and health, can also benefit from the training to enhance their practices.
Interdisciplinary Training
The faculty will consist of professors and researchers with experience in neuroscience, cognition, and education.
The idea is to provide interdisciplinary training, allowing students to understand learning phenomena from different perspectives.
Among the planned topics are the biological foundations of the brain, cognitive development, the relationship between emotion and learning, as well as evidence-based didactic strategies.
Throughout the course, participants will also be required to develop a final project that articulates theory and practice, a mandatory requirement to obtain the specialist title.
Expected Impact
The specialization in Neuroeducation emerges in a scenario where schools and universities seek to better understand the factors influencing student performance.
By training professionals in this field, IFRJ hopes to contribute to more effective pedagogical practices aligned with contemporary scientific knowledge.
The free nature of the course also expands the reach of the initiative, allowing professionals from different backgrounds to access high-level training without financial costs.
How to Apply
The application period runs until September 14, 2025 and must be done exclusively through the IFRJ electronic portal. There is a fee of R$ 20.00, to be paid by the deadline set in the public notice.
According to the schedule, the final result is expected to be announced on December 18, 2025, allowing the selected individuals to organize for the start of academic activities the following year.
