On last Monday (13), a 2-year-old girl was left behind by a school van in Jardim Sapopemba, east zone of São Paulo, and ran alone after the vehicle in the middle of traffic. On the same day, in Guarulhos, a 5-year-old boy was forgotten sleeping inside another van and was locked in for more than an hour until he managed to open the door and ask for help from a neighbor.
In the case of the girl, security cameras recorded the moment when the driver entered the van while the child remained on the sidewalk in front of the daycare. When she realized that the vehicle was leaving, the 2-year-old girl ran after the van in the middle of the street, among moving cars, until she was rescued by a woman passing by.
In Guarulhos, the 5-year-old boy slept during the trip and was not noticed during the final inspection of the vehicle.
The van was parked on a lot on Avenida River after the end of the route.

Who is being investigated?
The São Paulo Public Security Secretariat confirmed that two women, aged 18 and 31, are being investigated in the Guarulhos case.
The 31-year-old driver has already given a statement and was released.
The 18-year-old monitor will still be heard.
The case is being investigated by the 4th Police District of Guarulhos. In the east zone case, investigations are ongoing.
The two episodes on the same day reignite the debate about the oversight of school transport in São Paulo and the metropolitan region, which serves thousands of children daily without mandatory standardization of checking protocols for the departure and arrival of students.
