Unique Opportunity for Those Looking to Advance in Their Academic Career with a Highly Qualified Graduate Program Focused on Inclusion, Innovation, and Social Impact.

The State University of Rio Grande do Sul (UERGS) has recently launched Notice No. 02/2025, which offers an excellent opportunity for education professionals seeking to enhance their knowledge and advance in their academic careers.

The Graduate Program in Education (PPGED) at UERGS is now accepting applications for the Master’s and Professional Doctorate, with limited slots and a focus on themes relevant to the current educational landscape.

This is an invitation to transform your professional trajectory and contribute to innovation and quality in education in Brazil.

Graduate Program in Education at UERGS

The graduate program in Education at UERGS is recognized for the quality of its teaching and the relevance of the research conducted.

In 2025, the notice opens slots for the Professional Master’s and Professional Doctorate, allowing candidates from all over Brazil to apply.

The application period is from May 2 to August 15, 2025, giving interested individuals ample time to prepare calmly and thoroughly.

UERGS offers 24 slots for the Professional Master’s, lasting 24 months, and 17 slots for the Professional Doctorate, which lasts 48 months.

Additionally, the notice includes 4 extra slots for affirmative action policies, with 2 slots for each course (Master’s and Doctorate), demonstrating the institution’s commitment to social inclusion and diversity.

Inclusion and Affirmative Actions

UERGS has reinforced its commitment to social inclusion by reserving slots for historically marginalized groups.

The 4 additional slots planned for the Master’s and Doctorate are designated for Black, Indigenous, disabled individuals, transgender people, travestis, stateless individuals, refugees, and holders of humanitarian visas.

This action aims to promote diversity in the academic environment and ensure training opportunities for all, without distinction.

Research Lines: Choose Your Area of Expertise

The program offers candidates the opportunity to delve into one of four research lines that cover highly relevant themes for Brazilian and international education.
The available areas of study are:

  • Line I: Educational Contexts and Daily Life and the Formation of Teaching Staff
  • Line II: Arts in Educational Contexts
  • Line III: Human Rights, Education, and Technologies
  • Line IV: Education, Cultures, Languages, and Social Practices

Each of these research lines is supervised by highly qualified faculty with extensive experience in the specific areas.
The alignment between the research project and the candidate’s areas of interest ensures the production of relevant knowledge with social impact, one of the pillars of higher education at UERGS.

Selection Process: Challenges and Stages

The selection process will consist of two distinct stages, requiring preparation and dedication from the candidates.

The first stage consists of an eliminatory in-person written test, which will take place in Osório, Rio Grande do Sul.

The content covered will relate to the chosen research line and the candidate’s advisor, with evaluation criteria based on linguistic correction, thematic alignment, and coherence in theoretical argumentation.

The second stage of the selection process is a curriculum analysis and interview or project proposal defense.

For the Master’s, the candidate will be assessed based on their curriculum (Lattes model) and will undergo an in-person interview.

For the Doctorate, in addition to the curriculum analysis, the candidate must present and defend a research proposal, allowing evaluators to understand the depth and feasibility of the research proposal.

The final classification will be weighted according to the following criteria:

  • Master’s: The interview will have a weight of 8 and the curriculum a weight of 2.
  • Doctorate: The proposal defense will have a weight of 7 and the curriculum a weight of 3.

Additionally, there will be a separate classification for the slots designated for affirmative actions, ensuring equal opportunities for all candidates.

How to Apply: Stages and Requirements

Applications for the Master’s and Doctorate in Education at UERGS must be made exclusively online.

The application period is from May 2 to May 22, 2025, through the university’s official website: https://academico.uergs.edu.br/posgraduacao.

To apply for the Professional Master’s, candidates must hold a degree, preferably in teaching areas, with a diploma recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC).
