One of the smallest electric cars in the world has been launched in France, reaching 90 km/h with a 12,5 kW engine. See how this innovation promises to revolutionize the future of mobility and cities!
O Microlino EV, perhaps the world's smallest electric car, inspired by the iconic Isetta, made its first appearance at the Geneva Motor Show in 2016. After years of development, it has finally entered production and now a new version has been officially launched at the 2024 Paris Motor Show. Will it be the smallest electric car in the world?
This launch marks the arrival of a practical and stylish urban solution for the growing traffic in large cities, where space and sustainability become essential.
The concept of microcars
Microcars are practical and economical solutions to meet the challenges of getting around in overcrowded urban centers. And the Microlino, developed by Micro Mobility Systems AG, is one of the most charming examples in this category.

Like the Isetta, which was manufactured by BMW in the 1950s and 1960s, the Microlino retains the distinctive single-door front feature, but with a modern electrical upgrade.
Since its debut, the Microlino, perhaps the world’s smallest electric car, has undergone several revisions. In 2020, it received a retro-modern design, and in 2022, new concepts were unveiled, including a tourist-oriented version, now revealed in Paris as the Spiaggina model.
The smallest electric car in the world
The Spiaggina, an electric version aimed at European tourist destinations, was inspired by classic beach models such as the Fiat 600 Jolly and the Citroën Méhari. The car is designed to be used in summer tourist destinations such as Portofino, St. Tropez or Ibiza, offering a combination of retro charm with the modern technology of an electric car.
This model fits into the light electric vehicle category (L7e), reaching a top speed of 90 km/h with a 12,5 kW motor. The 10,5 kWh battery guarantees a range of up to 177 km per charge, making it an efficient and practical option for short and medium distance trips in tourist areas.
Functional and elegant design
The Spiaggina is built with a lightweight steel and aluminum frame. Its open sides allow air to flow freely, but there's also a striped canvas roof that can be adjusted to protect occupants from sun or rain. The design's versatility even includes rumors of a removable hardtop, which could be an additional option for drivers who prefer a more solid cover.
With its compact dimensions – 2.519 mm long, 1.473 mm wide and 1.501 mm high – the Spiaggina is extremely easy to maneuver and park in tight spaces. The 230-liter trunk offers enough space to carry beach gear and other essentials. What’s more, the interior, available in blue/white or gray/brown, is made from moisture-resistant vegan leather, designed to last in beach and yacht environments.
Potential for the tourism market
Micro Mobility Systems AG sees great potential in using the Spiaggina as a solution for the car rental market in hotels, theme parks and travel agencies. The idea is to offer tourists a unique and distinctive electric mobility experience, combining practicality and style. The first models of the Spiaggina First Edition will be available for sale in 2025, with a starting price of €24.990.
Interested parties can now put their names on the waiting list to guarantee their purchase of the microcar, and the Paris Motor Show reveal also introduced a Custom Program, where buyers can personalize their vehicle according to their preferences.
Production in Italy and international expansion
The vehicles will be manufactured at Micro's factory in Turin, Italy, and will initially be distributed in the European market. However, the company has already expressed interest in expanding to the United States, although details about that expansion have not yet been released.
If you're in Paris and want to see these adorable microcars up close, the Microlino and Spiaggina are on display in Hall 5.3 at the Motor Show.
The Microlino and its new Spiaggina model are proof that electric mobility can be practical, sustainable and incredibly stylish. Targeted at European cities and tourist destinations, these microcars represent a revolution in urban and leisure transport.
