A reduction of 1.18% in the tariff for energy produced by the Itaipu hydroelectric plant has been approved for 2021. The amount will drop from US$ 28.41 per kW/month in 2020 to US$ 28.07 per kW/month in 2021.
This amount refers to what is paid by distributors in the South, Southeast, and Midwest regions that purchase energy from Itaipu. The reduction impacts the electricity bills of Brazilians, as this energy acquisition is included in the calculation of the residential tariff. The effect on bills, however, also depends on the variation of the dollar.

Aneel also approved an 8.1% reduction in the tariffs for energy produced by the Angra 1 and 2 Nuclear Power Plants in 2021. The new tariff of R$ 249.64 per megawatt-hour (MWh) takes into account the fixed revenue approved for the plants for the year 2021: R$ 3.424 billion.
The payment for electricity from Angra 1 and 2, owned by Eletronuclear, is divided among the distributors of the National Interconnected System (SIN).
December bills are under the tariff flag system.
The revenue comes from the tariff approved by Aneel. Similarly, the values will come into effect starting January 1, 2021.
