Free Course from USP Presents Fundamentals of Universal Design for Learning and Offers Online Training on Inclusion and Neurodiversity.

The University of São Paulo (USP), through the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture (Esalq), is open for registrations for the diffusion course “Fundamentals of Universal Design for Learning (UDL),” offered entirely online, free of charge, with 5 thousand spots for participants from all over the country.

The training covers neurodiversity, educational inclusion, and accessible pedagogical practices, with a certificate granted to those who meet the required workload.

Course on UDL, Neurodiversity, and Educational Inclusion

Throughout the course, participants will engage with the main concepts of Universal Design for Learning.

The pedagogical planning model is used internationally to guide practices that take into consideration different learning profiles in the same classroom, including neurodivergent students.

The proposal is to support educators in creating more accessible environments, with activities, materials, and assessments designed to reduce barriers and enhance participation for all students.

The offering integrates institutional actions from USP aimed at inclusion and education for diversity.

Esalq emphasizes that the training aims to support professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of neurodiversity and how to adapt teaching for students with distinct characteristics, rhythms, and needs, while maintaining focus on the learning of the entire class.

The “Fundamentals of Universal Design for Learning (UDL)” course presents, in an introductory and applied manner, the principles of this pedagogical model.

The method proposes to flexibly adjust objectives, methods, materials, and forms of assessment to cater to students with different cognitive profiles.

UDL is used as a reference in policies and practices of inclusion across various educational systems, precisely because it simultaneously considers both typically developing students and neurodivergent students, such as those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, dyslexia, or giftedness.

Among the content areas outlined are learning and neurodiversity, understanding different student profiles, and inclusive pedagogical strategies.

Examples of UDL application in real contexts, case studies, and guidance for adapting activities, materials, and assessments to the daily realities of both in-person and virtual classrooms will also be discussed.

The total workload of the course is 8 hours, distributed among video lessons, supplementary materials, and formative activities produced by the responsible team at Esalq.

The activities are offered in a virtual environment, allowing participants to organize their studies according to their routines, within the defined period for completion.

Dates, Format, and Certification

According to information released by ESALQ/USP, the course will be offered in a distance learning format between February 6 and March 13, 2026, with internet access available to participants from all regions of Brazil and abroad.

During this period, participants will be able to follow the classes, access the teaching materials, and complete the proposed activities.

As this is a university diffusion course, certification is conditional upon completion of at least 75% of the proposed activities.

Those who achieve this percentage will be entitled to a certificate issued by USP, which can be used as proof of supplementary education, according to the rules of each educational network or institution.

The coordination of the initiative is linked to the Department of Economics, Administration, and Sociology at Esalq, under the responsibility of Professor Rosebelly Nunes Marques.

Target Audience and Participation Criteria

Participation is open to interested individuals from across the country and does not require a higher education degree.

However, USP informs that the priority audience includes teachers from Basic Education and Higher Education, pedagogical coordinators, school administrators, educational support professionals, and students enrolled in undergraduate education and pedagogy courses.

Professionals such as psycho-pedagogues, educational counselors, monitors, and inclusion aides who work directly to support students with specific needs are also included.

The proposal aims to serve both those who already work in public or private networks and those in initial training seeking to update their knowledge to work with inclusion and accessibility.

If the number of registrations approaches the limit of available spots, the university may expand the offering, provided there is academic and operational feasibility.

If this expansion does not occur, the selection of participants will consider the fit of the candidate’s profile and area of expertise with the course’s objectives, prioritizing those who work directly in primary, higher education, or in services supporting inclusive education.

How to Enroll in the Free USP Course

Registrations are realized exclusively online, through the USP Apolo system, and remain open until February 2, 2026, according to the calendar released by Esalq.

The registration period began on November 24, 2025, with spots being filled as registrations are completed by interested individuals.

To participate, candidates need to access the system, fill out the registration form with all requested information, and wait for the generation of the USP number, which is necessary for enrollment in the course and access to the virtual environment.
