In another initiative aimed at the decarbonization process of the automotive industry, Volkswagen do Brasil announced the signing of a memorandum of intent with the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), which provides for financial support for research on sustainable technological solutions based on the use of renewable energy.

The signing is an agreement that involves joint efforts to strengthen support for innovation, exportation, and international insertion, development of the production chain, as well as improvement of financial instruments.
According to Pablo Di Si, CEO and President of Volkswagen in Latin America, this is yet another significant agreement in renewable energy for Volkswagen do Brasil and aligns with the global strategy Way To Zero, towards a carbon-neutral automotive industry. The agreement with BNDES will provide environmental, economic, and social benefits, encouraging research and the creation of Brazilian technology, making companies capable of sharing such knowledge in the future.

In the statement, Volkswagen highlighted that the national automotive complex generates jobs for around 1.3 million people, with salaries above the national average. By incorporating new renewable energy technologies into the automotive industry, the Brazilian productive sector has the mission of maintaining its international competitiveness and relevance.
The agreement’s axes discuss BNDES’s long-term mission regarding support for innovation and small and medium enterprises, mainly in the sector’s production chain and also promoting sustainable development. According to Bruno Aranha, director of Productive and Socio-Environmental Credit at BNDES, vehicle decarbonization, mainly through bio-electrification, is part of the bank’s ESG agenda, which focuses on the country’s emission neutrality.
The partnership between Volkswagen and BNDES aims to create opportunities for local technology, generation of qualified and sustainable jobs, strengthening and modernization of the production chain, and also a competitive global market insertion.
Volkswagen Works for a Sustainable Future in the Automotive Sector
In addition to this new partnership with BNDES, the German brand is also active in several fronts focused on renewable energy. Regarding electric mobility, Volkswagen announced a partnership with Shell for the creation of a charging network for electric cars in the country.
Moreover, the brand is preparing to launch the electric ID.3 and ID.4 in Brazil. These will be the brand’s first emission-neutral cars in the country, with the electric SUV being showcased at the São Paulo Boat Show, an event that runs until November 9.
