Public notices of the Mais Médicos program will give priority to Brazilian health professionals
The President of the Republic revealed this Monday (20) that the Ministry of Health will resume the former Mais Médicos program. This time, the program will have more health professionals, such as dentists, nurses and social workers, in addition to receiving government investments to build and renovate Basic Units.
The government relaunched Mais Médicos with the promise to open 15 thousand vacancies this year – of which 10 with counterpart financing from the municipalities. According to the G1, the next public notices of the health program will give priority to Brazilians, whether trained in Brazil or abroad. However, the government does not completely rule out hiring foreign doctors.
The goal is to double the number of health professionals in the program
Created in 2013, Mais Médicos was never officially closed, but suffered a reduction in investments under the Michel Temer and Jair Bolsonaro administrations. The goal of the new version of the health program is to double the number of participating professionals. The Minister of Health, Nísia Trindade, revealed that the call notice for the 5 posts that already exist and are vacant should be released this week.

“He is coming back now with exceptional care, very great care. We want all doctors who sign up to be Brazilians, properly trained. If there are no conditions, we will want Brazilian doctors trained abroad, or foreign doctors who work here”, said the current president of the republic.
Government affirms that the control of public expenses will no longer limit health programs
The President of the Republic claims that controlling public spending cannot mean limiting social programs, as is the case of Mais Médicos, for example, or delays in investment schedules. The federal government is expected to release this week a new fiscal framework drawn up by the economic team and which will have to go through Congress.
If the new fiscal framework is approved, its rules will replace the current spending cap, which prevents growth in public spending from being higher than inflation. Thus, an eventual explosion in spending will be allowed, which increases the government's debt, generates inflation and also penalizes the poorest.
“We have to change our concept of what is spent and what is investment. Everything that is done to educate the people, to train the people, to take care of the health of the people, we always have to see it as an investment”, justified the president of the republic.
