In Total, the New Units of Wind Power Generation Have, Together, 20.8 Megawatts of Installed Capacity
Copel has kicked off its new project for wind power generation, with the commencement of six wind power generating parks at the Jandaíra wind complex in the state of Rio Grande do Norte. The new units have a total installed capacity of 20.8 megawatts, according to a document sent to the market this Monday (17).
The first wind turbines of the plants to enter commercial operation are part of the Jandaíra IV park and represent 23% of the total installed capacity. The other 19 wind turbines (73% of the total of 26) are still in testing, and the generated energy is being settled.
“The new wind farms are expected to enter commercial operation in a staggered manner by the end of 2022, more than two years before the deadline for the contracted supply delivery,” the company states.

While hydroelectric plants lose capacity due to evaporation caused by heat in the reservoirs, the Philippines are installing floating solar panels on the plants’ own lakes, generating energy, reducing evaporation by up to 70%, and cooling the panels to increase electrical efficiency at the same time.

HOW DO WIND TURBINES WORK?
New Wind Farm is Fully Owned by Copel
With 100% ownership by Copel GeT, the project is located in the municipality of Jandaíra and comprises four wind farms, totaling 90.1 MW of installed capacity and has financing from the Banco do Nordeste do Brasil (BNB) for about 50% of the planned investment.
“The start of operations of the plants reinforces Copel’s strategy for sustainable growth and commitment to creating value through investments in projects that contribute to the diversification and expansion of its portfolio through renewable energy sources,” the company declares.
When the 26 units of wind generation are in operation, along with the recent acquisition of the Aventura and Sant Rosa & Mundo Novo complexes, wind power generation will represent 17% of the total installed capacity of the Copel Group.
