The New Fertilizer Plant Promises to Generate 8 Thousand Direct and Indirect Jobs, and Petrobras Is About to Announce the Next Steps
The government of Mato Grosso do Sul and Petrobras remain aligned for the resumption of the UFN3 fertilizer plant, a strategic undertaking for both the state and Brazil.
Governor Eduardo Riedel, during a visit to the company headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, confirmed that the schedule is being met as planned, with significant advances in the completion of the plant. The expectation is that up to eight thousand direct and indirect jobs will be generated upon the completion of the works.
The meeting, held on Monday (14), was attended by Petrobras president Magda Chambriard, Minister of Planning and Budget Simone Tebet, and other authorities, such as the state secretary of Development, Jaime Verruck, and the CEO of MSGÁS, Cristiane Schmidt.

The Fertilizer Plant Is a Landmark for Mato Grosso do Sul with the Support of Petrobras

During the meeting, the main points related to the UFN3 were discussed, including the next steps that will be announced in the coming months.
According to Governor Riedel, “the issues related to UFN3 were widely debated, and it is positive to note that the initial schedule is being respected. We are waiting for the bidding approval from the Board of Directors to initiate the works.”
The resumption of the project, suspended since 2014, is considered a milestone for Mato Grosso do Sul and for the fertilizer sector in Brazil.
Minister Simone Tebet also highlighted the importance of the plant for the local and national economy. “We are happy to see that Petrobras president Magda Chambriard recognizes the relevance of this plant to Três Lagoas, Mato Grosso do Sul, and the entire country. The schedule is progressing, and soon we will have good news,” she stated.
Tebet also took the opportunity to invite Chambriard and her team to visit the facility by February 2024.
The UFN3 fertilizer plant, located in Três Lagoas, is eagerly awaited by the local population, especially for job creation and regional economic stimulation. “It is a transformative project, and the return of the works will have a positive impact not only on the economy of Mato Grosso do Sul but for the entire Brazil,” emphasized Governor Riedel.
The Completion of the UFN3 Works

Started in 2011, the UFN3 works were interrupted in December 2014, when about 81% of the construction was already completed. The original project called for an investment of R$ 3.9 billion, with the plant designed to be the largest fertilizer factory in Latin America. Among the main objectives of UFN3 is to reduce Brazil’s dependence on the import of nitrogen fertilizers, crucial for the country’s agricultural sector.
With a capacity to produce 3,600 tons of urea and up to 2,200 tons of ammonia daily, the plant will be supplied with 2.3 million cubic meters of natural gas per day. The impact of the completion of UFN3 goes beyond job creation, as the plant will be essential for increasing national fertilizer production, providing Brazil with more autonomy in this strategic sector.
The resumption of the project will also boost other economic activities around the plant, from the transportation sector to local commerce, stimulating the region’s economic growth. The expectation is that, once completed, UFN3 will strengthen the competitiveness of the Brazilian agribusiness, which relies heavily on fertilizers to sustain its production.
Mato Grosso do Sul in the National Scenario
Governor Eduardo Riedel highlighted that the resumption of UFN3 is just one of several initiatives positioning Mato Grosso do Sul prominently in the national scenario. In addition to the fertilizer plant, the state has become an investment hub in sectors such as cellulose production, establishing itself as a key player in Brazil’s economic development.
Minister Simone Tebet also emphasized the strategic role of Riedel and his administration in the state’s success. “Mato Grosso do Sul has shown great growth potential, and this is due to the governor’s competence, who maintains a close relationship with the Federal Government and knows how to negotiate to ensure the necessary investments,” Tebet concluded.
With the resumption of UFN3, Mato Grosso do Sul takes another step towards strengthening its economy, creating new opportunities for its population and contributing to national autonomy in the fertilizer sector.

E ainda lucrar e gerar empregos e desenvolver ciência e tecnologias .
