Therefore, passengers using Azul should pay attention to these modifications, which will take effect starting in March. The decision was officially announced by the company on February 20, 2025, during a press release.
Which Cities Will Be Most Affected by Flight Suspensions?
The airline announced that it will suspend flights in nine cities in 2025. Thus, the affected locations include Barreirinhas (MA), Campos (RJ), Correia Pinto (SC), Jaguaruna (SC), Mossoró (RN), Parnaíba (PI), Rio Verde (GO), São Raimundo Nonato (PI), and Três Lagoas (MS).
Therefore, passengers using these destinations will need to seek alternative transportation or closer airports. The flight suspensions will occur gradually throughout the first half of 2025, with completion expected by March 31, 2025.
Strategic Destinations: What Changes in Fernando de Noronha and Other Locations
One of the most impactful changes involves flights to Fernando de Noronha (PE). Starting on March 3, 2025, Azul will operate flights to the island only from Recife (PE), ending other direct connection options.
Additionally, Juazeiro do Norte (CE) will have flights directed to Viracopos (SP) starting from March 10, 2025. Consequently, Ponta Grossa (PR) will no longer have Azul flights starting March 31, 2025.
The company highlighted that it analyzed these changes based on demand data and economic viability throughout 2024.
New Aircraft Models and Operational Adjustments
Smaller Capacity Aircraft and Seasonal Operations
Azul also confirmed that Caruaru (PE) will feature smaller aircraft, such as the Cessna Grand Caravan, which carries up to nine passengers. Thus, the company aims to optimize its operations.
Meanwhile, destinations like Cabo Frio (RJ) and Caldas Novas (GO) will have flights only during the peak season, which directly affects passenger flow during those periods.
The decision to operate these cities seasonally was made after analyzing flight occupancy data between 2023 and 2024.
Reasons for the Changes and How to Request a Refund
Azul justified these changes as part of a strategic adjustment in light of dollar fluctuations, operational costs, and variations in flight demand.
The company also cited impacts from the global crisis in the airline sector as one of the factors that influenced the changes. The decision was based on internal reports from the company and analyses released by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC).
Therefore, the company recommends that affected passengers contact Azul Airlines for information regarding refunds, itinerary changes, and new travel options.
The company assured that it will follow the rules set by ANAC to minimize the impact on customers.
