Elgin Invests R$ 200 Million in BLDC Motor Factory in Manaus, Bets on National Technology to Strengthen Global Presence and Reduce Dependence on Imports in the Air Conditioning and Industrial Automation Sector.

Elgin inaugurated its new BLDC (brushless DC) motor production unit in Manaus on November 4th, a technology essential for air conditioning and automation equipment. The project received R$ 200 million in investments, the largest industrial investment in the company’s recent history, and reinforces the strategy to position Brazil as a producer and exporter of high value-added technology.

Structure and Sustainability of the New Unit

The factory was built within the existing manufacturing complex of Elgin in the Amazon capital, with a project aligned with the company’s environmental policies. The operation will be powered by renewable energy and will reduce CO₂ emissions associated with the international transportation of components, as some previously imported items will now be manufactured locally.

The plant is equipped with modern production lines and a co-development center, where engineers and clients can test and simulate customized solutions, accelerating the development of new products for various applications.

BLDC motors use brushless direct current, eliminating the friction and wear typical of traditional motors. The main advantages include:

According to Anderson Bruno, Elgin’s Commercial Vice President, “the manufacture of these motors in Brazilian territory positions Elgin on the global strategic map of air conditioning,” taking advantage of the trend of supplier diversification by international markets.

COO Caio Guazzelli stated that the new factory is an important step to “strengthen national innovation, generate local value, and expand Elgin’s role as an integrated supplier in the Air Conditioning and Industrial Automation sectors.”

With local production, Elgin aims to increase supply to air conditioning manufacturers, industrial HVAC companies, and automation firms. The unit also enhances the company’s capacity to meet emergency demands, as recently occurred when part of the new factory’s equipment was used after a fire at another unit.

The inauguration comes at a time when the market for high-efficiency electric motors is growing, driven by stricter environmental regulations and demand for low-energy consumption solutions. Elgin believes that national production of BLDC motors will increase its competitiveness in Brazil and abroad, reducing logistical costs and lead times.

The expectation is that the factory will help increase Brazil’s industrial autonomy in a segment of high technological value, reducing dependence on imports and generating skilled jobs in the region.
