The Vivo X500 Pro Max is the Chinese phone threatening Samsung and Apple in the premium segment with a 200 MP zoom camera, 50 MP sensor with LOFIC, a battery over 7,000 mAh, a 6.9-inch screen, and the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro chip, with a launch scheduled for the end of 2026.

A Chinese phone is about to enter the premium market with specifications that put Samsung and Apple in an uncomfortable position. The Vivo X500 Pro Max, whose details were revealed by leaker Smart Pikachu on the Chinese social network Weibo, would combine a zoom camera with a 200 MP sensor, a 50 MP main sensor equipped with LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) technology, and a battery with over 7,000 mAh capacity, a package that positions the phone as a candidate for one of the most advanced devices of the year. The chip that will power this phone is the awaited MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro, a processor that has already shown high performance numbers in leaked benchmarks and that can directly rival Qualcomm’s Snapdragon and Apple’s proprietary chip.

The phone should arrive on the market along with the rest of the X500 family near the end of the year, if Vivo maintains its previous launch schedule. It is not yet clear if the Pro Max model will replace the brand’s former Ultra series, but the leaked specifications make it clear that Vivo intends to compete at the top of the smartphone chain with a phone that prioritizes professional photography and battery autonomy as key differentiators. For those who follow the premium phone market, the numbers for the X500 Pro Max represent a significant evolution compared to what the brand offered with the X300 Ultra.

What the 200 MP camera of the Vivo X500 Pro Max phone can deliver

The Vivo X500 Pro Max phone features a 200 MP camera, a 7,000 mAh battery, and the Dimensity 9600 Pro chip. Find out why it threatens Samsung and Apple in the premium segment.

The zoom lens with a 200 MP sensor is the phone’s most eye-catching photographic highlight. Sensors of this resolution allow for captures with a level of detail that enables aggressive cropping of the image without visible loss of quality, a capability that in practice transforms digital zoom into a usable tool instead of a feature that degrades the photo with each magnification.

The trend of 200 MP sensors in telephoto lenses has gained strength in recent launches, including the Vivo X300 Ultra itself, and the presence of this technology in the X500 Pro Max phone confirms that the brand is betting on long-distance photography as a selling point against Samsung and Apple.

The 50 MP main sensor with LOFIC technology is equally relevant, although less flashy numerically.

The acronym LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) refers to an additional lateral capacitor in the sensor that absorbs excess light that would overflow from the main capacitor, resulting in naturally superior HDR, especially in scenes against the sun or with high contrast between light and dark areas.

For the user who takes photos in daily life without adjusting manual settings, this phone promises to deliver balanced images in difficult lighting conditions without the need for aggressive computational processing that other manufacturers use to compensate for hardware limitations.

The chip that makes this phone a threat to Samsung and Apple

The Vivo X500 Pro Max phone features a 200 MP camera, a 7,000 mAh battery, and the Dimensity 9600 Pro chip. Find out why it threatens Samsung and Apple in the premium segment.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro is the processor expected to equip the Vivo X500 Pro Max phone. Engineering numbers that leaked before the official announcement indicate performance that places the chip on a competitive level with top-of-the-line processors from Qualcomm and Apple, a position that MediaTek has been gradually conquering over the last few years after decades of being exclusively associated with the mid-range segment.

For Vivo’s phone, this means that performance in gaming, video editing, and multitasking should be comparable to what the Galaxy S and iPhone offer, eliminating the disadvantage that Chinese phones historically had in raw processing.

The choice of the Dimensity 9600 Pro could also bring advantages in energy efficiency. Recent MediaTek chips have demonstrated the ability to deliver high performance with lower power consumption than competitors manufactured on similar lithographic processes, a feature that, combined with the phone’s over 7,000 mAh battery, would result in a battery life that few premium smartphones can match.

For a phone that combines a 6.9-inch screen and high-resolution cameras, two of the biggest battery consumers in any smartphone, having an efficient processor is as important as having a large battery.

The battery that sets this phone apart from what Samsung and Apple offer

Over 7,000 mAh is a capacity that no premium phone from Samsung or Apple currently offers. Samsung’s flagships are around 5,000 mAh and iPhones are below that, which means the Vivo X500 Pro Max phone would have an energy reserve at least 40% greater than its most direct competitors.

In practice, this translates to a full day of intensive use without battery anxiety, an advantage that for many consumers outweighs differences in camera or processor.

The 6.9-inch screen that accompanies this battery positions the phone in the large device segment, a format that the industry has established as a preference for content consumption and productivity.

The generous size demands precisely the robust battery that the phone offers, because panels of this size consume energy proportionally to the illuminated area. Vivo seems to have calculated the equation correctly: a large screen needs a large battery, and the X500 Pro Max delivers both without the user having to choose between visual experience and battery life.

What the multispectral sensor could mean for the phone

In addition to the cameras already confirmed by leaks, Smart Pikachu indicates that there are studies within Vivo to incorporate a multispectral sensor into the phone.

This type of component reads and processes colors with higher fidelity than conventional sensors, capturing information in ranges of the spectrum that traditional cameras do not register and using this data to produce images with more accurate color reproduction.

If implemented, the multispectral sensor would differentiate the X500 Pro Max phone from any competitor in the premium market, because no smartphone from Samsung or Apple currently offers this technology.

The possibility is not yet confirmed and may be left for future versions. Multispectral sensors are complex components that increase cost and require specialized software to process the additional data, and the decision to include them or not depends on Vivo’s internal assessment of whether the consumer benefit justifies the development investment.

Regardless of this optional feature, the X500 Pro Max phone already brings together a 200 MP camera, LOFIC, a battery over 7,000 mAh, and the Dimensity 9600 Pro chip, a combination that is enough on its own to bother Samsung and Apple in the segment that matters most for the industry’s profit margins.

And you, would you trade your Samsung or iPhone for a Chinese phone with these specifications? Do you think Vivo can compete in the premium segment? Leave your opinion in the comments.
