The new Honda NX500 represents an important step in the brand’s strategy. It abandons the CB name, an acronym used for Honda’s urban motorcycles, and adopts the NX acronym, historically linked to adventure models like the Falcon and the Sahara. This symbolic change reflects the evolution of the motorcycle, which with each generation drifted further from its 500cc sisters.
The visual has been completely redesigned, giving the Honda NX500 a unique identity. It is bulkier and more robust, with new front air intakes. These intakes are not just aesthetic; they improve aerodynamics, helping to keep the motorcycle stable, and contribute to the cooling of the rider. The successful base of its predecessor has been maintained, but the updates have turned it into a new motorcycle.

The Technological Jump That Makes A Difference In Day To Day
The main advancement of the Honda NX500 lies in its technology. The old “blackout” dashboard, which suffered from reflections, has been replaced by a modern 5-inch TFT display. This new dashboard offers excellent visibility in any lighting condition, with automatic brightness, light and dark modes, and three layout options. Connectivity is in the process of being approved for Brazil.
Another crucial novelty is the inclusion of traction control, which can be turned on or off using a button on the grip. The lighting remains full LED, but with redesigned headlight and taillight. To make the rider’s life easier, a new joystick allows navigation through the dashboard functions without taking a hand off the handlebars, a significant improvement in practicality and safety.
Engine And Handling: What Changed In Performance
The 471 cc engine remains the soul of the motorcycle. Despite a slight declared reduction to 50 horsepower, it has been remapped. The goal was to deliver more power at low and medium RPMs. The result is a more vigorous acceleration, causing the Honda NX500 to reach 100 km/h faster than its sister Hornet. The top speed, according to homologation data, is 160 km/h.
The wheels are also new, with a “Y” design that made the front 1.1 kg lighter, improving stability. The front suspension has been recalibrated and is firmer, ensuring excellent grip on winding roads. The front brakes, with a Nissin system and dual discs, have also been updated.
In Practice: Real Impressions When Riding The New Honda NX500
When riding, the first impression is the comfort. The riding position is excellent, with an open chest and slightly retracted legs, which helps in control and makes the ride more fun. The seat has become narrower in the leg area, making it easier to fit in and giving the sensation that the motorcycle is lighter and more docile.
The engine operates extremely smoothly and vibrates very little, making long trips more enjoyable. The acceleration impresses with how quickly it reaches 100 or 120 km/h. During our test, fuel consumption was around 27 to 28 km/L, a great number for its displacement.
As areas for improvement, the windshield does not have height adjustment and the aerodynamic protection could be better. Additionally, items like USB charging and hand guards are sold only as options.
The Verdict: Consumption, Price, And Whether The Honda NX500 Is Worth It
According to the Rodolfinho da Z channel, the Honda NX500 has proven to be an “all-in-one” motorcycle. It is efficient for urban use due to its lightness (183 kg dry) and agility, and at the same time is powerful and comfortable for hitting the road. It is a clear evolution of the CB500X, with many more positives than negatives.
The motorcycle is available in red, white, and black, with a 3-year warranty. The suggested price is R$ 45,000. However, the price practiced in stores, according to the FIPE table, is around R$ 52,000. At R$ 45,000, it is an excellent option. At R$ 52,000, the decision becomes more complex. The final answer as to whether it is worth it will depend on the budget and needs of each motorcyclist.
