According to Ceará’s Governor, Camilo Santana, there is no doubt that changing the energy matrix is an essential step for the future of the environment and the country’s energy future.
The government is working hard to ensure that the necessary conditions are in place for Ceará to become a major HUB for clean energy and green hydrogen production for Brazil and the world.

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.
The state’s investment agreement with AES Brasil provides for the development of a green hydrogen production chain project, including the intention to participate in a pool for ammonia storage and utilities to be created and implemented at the future Hub.

Ítalo Freitas, Vice President of AES Brasil, who had the chance to closely observe the Pecém Complex, assessed Ceará’s potential to contribute to the economy’s decarbonization movement. According to the Vice President, Ceará has the ideal conditions for producing hydrogen at a competitive cost.
According to Ítalo, AES Brasil, which aims to support its clients in decarbonization through clean energy, also wishes to be part of the green hydrogen industry in the future. Luis Sarra, the Green Hydrogen Director of AES in South America, states that the investment to be built in Ceará will be aimed at the international market through the export of clean energy via the Pecém port.
Ítalo added that technology can be one of the pathways to decarbonizing the economy, helping major carbon-emitting industries in their mission to reduce emissions in their processes.
