Check out the new value of the preschool allowance for Armed Forces military personnel, who is entitled to the military benefit, and when the adjustment will be paid.
The Ministry of Defense has officially announced an 8.6% adjustment in the preschool allowance paid to dependents of Armed Forces members. With the publication of Ordinance GM-MD No. 3.019, dated May 28, 2026, the benefit amount increased from R$ 484.90 to R$ 526.64 per month.
The measure has been financially effective since May 1, 2026, and covers military personnel from the Navy, Army, and Air Force across the country. Although it does not represent a salary increase, the update comes at a time of rising costs related to early childhood education, reinforcing the budget of families with preschool-age children.

The new regulation replaces Joint Ordinance MGI/MD No. 31, published on May 29, 2024, which had set the benefit at R$ 484.90 per month.
The adjustment will be applied uniformly across all Brazilian regions, regardless of the location where the military is serving.
8.6% adjustment expands military benefit for thousands of families
The increase represents a difference of R$ 41.74 per month compared to the previous amount. In practice, this means an annual increase of approximately R$ 500.88 for each benefiting family.
Even without the impact of a salary review, the military benefit adjustment helps to offset part of the expenses related to early childhood education.
Among the expenses that usually weigh on the family budget are:
- School fees;
- Pedagogical materials;
- Child nutrition;
- School transportation;
- Supplementary activities.
For many military personnel living in capitals and large urban centers, where the cost of living tends to be higher, the increase is seen as an important reinforcement in financial planning.
Who can receive the pre-school allowance in the Armed Forces
The pre-school allowance is intended for the dependents of Armed Forces military personnel who meet the criteria defined by federal legislation.
In general, the benefit covers children aged between 0 and 6 years old, provided they are duly registered as dependents of the military with the administration of the Navy, Army, or Brazilian Air Force.
The aim is to assist families during a fundamental stage of child development, contributing to expenses related to the care and education of children.
Legislation guarantees payment to military personnel with dependents
The assistance is supported by federal regulations that govern this type of benefit within public administration.
Among the main legal provisions are:
- Provisional Measure No. 2,215-10, of August 31, 2001;
- Decree No. 977, of November 10, 1993.
These regulations establish the conditions for granting, maintaining, and paying the pre-school allowance to beneficiaries who meet the required criteria.
The existence of this legal basis provides greater legal security both for the military personnel and for the administration responsible for the payments.
New value of the military benefit applies retroactively
One of the points that drew the most attention in the ordinance was the definition of financial effects starting from May 1, 2026.
This means that military personnel who were already entitled to the benefit will be able to receive the amounts corresponding to the difference between the old amount and the new payment for the period established by the regulation.
Now, the expectation is that the administrative and financial sectors of the Armed Forces will make the necessary adjustments to adapt the payment systems to the new value defined by the Ministry of Defense.
Increase in educational costs reinforces the importance of the pre-school allowance
In recent years, expenses related to early childhood have increased significantly in various regions of Brazil.
In addition to school fees, families need to deal with a series of additional costs that directly impact the household budget.
Among them are:
- Uniforms;
- School supplies;
- Food;
- Transportation;
- Specialized childcare.
In this context, the preschool allowance plays a significant role by providing financial support to families facing constant expenses during the early years of their children’s lives.
Educational experts often emphasize that investments made in early childhood have a direct impact on the cognitive, social, and emotional development of children.
Armed Forces strengthen support to families with benefit update
The increase in the preschool allowance to R$ 526.64 per month reinforces the assistance policy offered to members of the Armed Forces. Although the 8.6% adjustment does not represent an increase in military salaries, it expands an important benefit for families with preschool-aged children.
With financial effects retroactive to May 1, 2026, the measure provides additional reinforcement to the household budget and helps address part of the costs associated with early childhood education. In a scenario of ever-increasing expenses, the update of the military benefit represents significant support for thousands of families in the Navy, Army, and Air Force across Brazil.
