ANP Updates Regulations for Submitting Digital Well Data, Aiming for More Clarity, Efficiency, and Agility in the Regulatory Process by Integrating ANP8 Standard into Resolution No. 880/2022.
The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) approved, on Wednesday (4/24), changes in Section III of Chapter III of Resolution No. 880/2022, which regulates the submission of digital well data by operators.
Focusing on simplifying processes and increasing efficiency, the measure also incorporates the ANP8 Standard into the regulation, reinforcing the standardization of essential records for the oil and gas exploration and production industry.
Changes Aim for Clarity and Flexibility
The revision of the norms brings significant advances in the delivery of digital well data to ANP.
-
Petrobras evaluates suspension of sales to distributors and considers canceling the cooking gas auction following guidelines from the Federal Government.
-
Lula reveals a masterstroke by Petrobras to undo a deal made by Bolsonaro, which involves the return of an important refinery that currently produces less than half of what was expected and makes Brazil dependent on international diesel.
-
A study confirms that the natural gas sector will reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Brazil by 0.5% and accelerate the energy transition by 2026.
-
Petrobras implements a severe adjustment and confirms a 55% increase in the price of aviation kerosene with a proposal for installment payments for the companies.
Among the main changes, there is greater clarity regarding the types of information required and the expected formats.
There was also a relaxation of the requirements related to the curves of the processed digital profile, geological monitoring profiles, and the composite profile.
Another significant change was the removal of the obligation to submit correlation profiles.
These documents, used only for tool positioning inside the well, will no longer need to be submitted, which promises to make the submission and quality control process more agile and efficient.
ANP8 Standard Gains Regulatory Strength
The ANP8 Standard, which was previously available only on the Agency’s website but did not have a regulatory character, now formally integrates Resolution No. 880/2022.
This standard governs the submission of Formation Test data, a crucial step for characterizing oil and gas reservoirs.
With this change, ANP aims to consolidate the standardization of digital well data, establishing clearer and more objective criteria for collecting and submitting this information, essential for exploration and production (E&P).
Importance of Digital Well Data
Digital well data collected during drilling is fundamental for strategic activities in the oil and gas sector.
They encompass records about geological formations, reservoir characteristics, and fluid properties present underground.
In the E&P segment, this information supports the assessment of the potential for new discoveries, the planning of exploitation operations, and the definition of field development strategies.
Thus, the standardized delivery of data is essential to ensure proper management of its receipt, quality control, storage, and future availability to the public.
Exploration and Production Database (BDEP)
After receipt, ANP conducts quality control on the digital well data and stores it in the Exploration and Production Database (BDEP).
When released for public domain, this data becomes a valuable source of information for sector stakeholders and educational institutions, driving research and innovations in the energy field.
The regulatory changes went through public consultation and hearings, demonstrating the Agency’s commitment to transparency and social participation in improving the norms.
The new changes will come into effect starting from the publication of the revising resolution in the Federal Official Gazette.
