At Least Five Shipyards Between China and Brazil Will Build the Next FPSO Units for Libra and the Production Sharing Contract in the Santos Basin
At least five shipyards distributed between China and Brazil will be responsible for the construction of the next FPSOs in the areas of Libra and the Production Sharing Contract in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin. Jobs are on the horizon! Equinor predicts that by early 2020, there will be more than 1200 workers active in the Campos Basin.
The Brazilian shipyard Brasfels, in Angra dos Reis (RJ), along with the Chinese Bomesc, in Tianjin, and Cosco, in Dalian, will be responsible for the construction of the FPSO Carioca, operated by Modec, which will be installed in the Sépia field, in the Santos Basin.

The FPSO Guanabara will have its construction shared between EBR (Estaleiros do Brasil), in São José do Norte (RS), and Cosco, in China. The unit is also chartered by Modec and will produce in Mero 1 starting in 2021.

The FPSO Almirante Barroso, designated for the Búzios 5 field, has operations scheduled for 2022, and so far, it is the only one guaranteed for construction at the Cosco shipyard.
So far, Modec is negotiating with other shipyards for remaining parts of the scope.
The first platform contracted to SBM after the company’s precautionary blocking period with Petrobras, the FPSO Sepetiba (Mero 2) will be manufactured by the Chinese CMHI-Nantong and Bomesc-Tianjin and by EBR. Its start of operations is scheduled for 2023.
