Announcement Occurs During Presidential Mission and Expands Access to Other Agribusiness Products, Strengthening Chicken Exports and the Sector as a Whole.
The Ministry of Agriculture announced this Friday the resumption of chicken exports from Brazil to Malaysia. The suspension had been in place since May, due to a avian influenza outbreak identified in the country. The news was celebrated as a victory for the national agribusiness, consolidating Brazil’s position as a world leader in the sector.
The announcement was made by Minister Carlos Fávaro during an official mission to Malaysia, led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. “We arrived from Indonesia to Malaysia and came straight to the Malaysian Ministry of Agriculture, where we held the first bilateral meeting with great news”, said the minister in an official statement.
The End of the Suspension and International Confidence International
The temporary barrier imposed by Malaysia in May was a sanitary precautionary measure. The Ministry of Agriculture emphasized, however, that Brazil has already been considered free of avian influenza, which was crucial for the swift renegotiation and reversal of the suspension.

According to the ministry, most importing countries that had adopted similar restrictions have already resumed purchases of chicken meat from Brazil. The resumption of chicken exports to the Malaysian market is seen as a crucial step, as Brazil holds the title of largest global exporter of chicken meat, and any interruption, even if temporary, generates apprehension throughout the production chain.
Presidential Mission Expands Access to New Products
The Brazilian delegation’s visit to Malaysia was not limited to reopening the market for chicken exports. The bilateral meeting, as detailed by Minister Carlos Fávaro, was fruitful and resulted in the expansion of access for various new Brazilian products to the demanding Malaysian market.
The Malaysian government formally authorized the import of a new and varied basket of Brazilian agribusiness products. The list includes seafood (both wild-caught and farmed), sesame, melon, and apples. Additionally, the opening of the market for powdered eggs was formalized, significantly diversifying Brazil’s export agenda to the Asian country.
Pork Market Also Advances
In addition to the immediate achievements for chicken exports and other agricultural products, the ministerial meeting in Malaysia brought strategic advances for the pork sector. The statement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture indicates significant progress in bilateral negotiations.
It was agreed that an audit mission from Malaysia to Brazil will be brought forward. The main objective of this mission is to evaluate 16 Brazilian pork processing plants. This evaluation is an essential and mandatory step for the qualification and future export of this type of protein to the country, further strengthening bilateral trade.
The resumption of chicken exports to Malaysia and the opening for new products represent an important boost for Brazilian agribusiness, reaffirming its prominent position and international confidence in the country’s sanitary controls.
