Two of the Largest Technology Companies in the World Are Working to Improve the Environment. With This, Apple Is Creating a Project That Will Involve Tesla for Solar Energy Storage

Solar energy is an inexhaustible source of energy that major companies worldwide are increasingly using. Apple has decided to build a station that will store solar energy. The idea is to construct this facility near a solar power plant located in central California. Tesla is not left behind in this story.

Project Capacity

The project is ambitious. The idea is for the storage station to have a capacity of up to 240 megawatt-hours of energy. This number is quite high, with the capacity to power up to 7,000 homes in a single day. Currently, the plant that provides solar energy to Apple sends directly to the company 130 megawatts per day; however, it does not have the capacity to supply at night.

Where Does Tesla Fit Into This Story?

The Apple project is massive, needing cutting-edge technology for energy storage. Because of this, all the batteries required for the project will come from Tesla. The idea is for Apple’s facility to have 85 megabatteries of lithium-ion technology. In other words, cutting-edge technology in favor of the environment and solar energy.

Solar Energy: Apple and Tesla Together Helping the Environment

Lisa Jackson, Apple’s Vice President of Environment, highlighted that the main issue with solar energy is its intermittency. However, she expressed confidence that the project between Apple and Tesla will yield good results.

Should this happen, other companies will have one more incentive to do the same: ”If we can do this and show it works for us, it alleviates concerns about intermittency and helps the grid in terms of stabilization. It’s something that can be imitated or developed by other companies.
