Have you ever imagined how learning Libras can transform your life and career?

Accessibility is increasingly present in our daily lives, and mastering Brazilian Sign Language is more than just a skill – it’s a gateway to the future.

If you have the desire to qualify but don’t know where to start, an incredible opportunity is knocking at your door, and the best part: it’s completely free.

This is not just a course; it’s a pathway to a booming job market. Want to know how to take advantage of this opportunity?

The big news comes directly from the Federal Institute of Brasília (IFB), which is offering 120 spots for Libras courses, divided between Basic and Intermediate levels.

If you’ve always wanted to learn this official language of the deaf community in Brazil, recognized by Law No. 10.436/2002, this is your chance.

But, like any good opportunity, the spots are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. So, don’t waste time!

What Is Libras and Why Learn It?

The Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) is much more than just gestures. It is a complete language, with its own grammar and structure.

Used by the deaf community, it is one of the most effective ways to promote inclusion and ensure communication between deaf and hearing individuals.

Learning Libras is not only about acquiring a new skill, but also about contributing directly to a more accessible and inclusive society.

According to experts, mastering Libras is becoming increasingly important in various fields of the job market.

With the growing demand for professionals qualified to work in inclusive environments such as schools, companies, and public institutions, training in Libras can open numerous professional opportunities.

How Do the Courses Work?

The Federal Institute of Brasília is offering two course modalities: Basic Libras and Intermediate Libras. Each of them consists of 60 hours of class time, and the classes will be held in-person at the Taguatinga Campus.

The spots will be distributed as follows:

  • Basic Libras:
    • Morning: Tuesdays, from 9 AM to 12 PM (30 spots)
    • Afternoon: Wednesdays, from 2 PM to 5 PM (30 spots)
  • Intermediate Libras:
    • Morning: Wednesdays, from 9 AM to 12 PM (30 spots)
    • Afternoon: Tuesdays, from 2 PM to 5 PM (30 spots)

This is an excellent opportunity for those looking to qualify in a course endorsed by the Ministry of Education (MEC). Furthermore, the initial and continuous training offered by IFB allows students, upon completing the course, to stand out in the job market, which is increasingly focused on inclusion and accessibility.

Who Can Enroll?

Enrollment is free, but certain basic requirements must be met. Here’s who can apply for each level:

Interested individuals must send an email expressing their desire to enroll to the campus’s institutional email address: matricula.taguatinga@ifb.edu.br. Selection will be made based on the order of submission of the forms.

When Does Enrollment Start?

It is important to stay aware of the dates. Enrollment will begin on October 14, 2024, and spots will be filled based on the order of submission.

In other words, the sooner you submit your application, the greater your chances of securing a spot.

According to IFB regulations, the courses will provide a unique opportunity to gain recognized training in Libras, enhancing your skills and professional perspectives.

According to recent data, the inclusion of individuals with hearing impairments in the workplace has significantly increased, and companies are increasingly seeking qualified professionals to facilitate this integration.

Moreover, by learning Libras, you will be contributing to the creation of a more inclusive society, capable of welcoming and communicating with everyone.

And best of all, you will do this for free and with the support of a renowned institution like IFB.
