The payment calendar for Bolsa Família for October 2024 begins on the 18th, benefiting millions of families across Brazil. Those with the Social Identification Number (NIS) ending in 1 will be the first to receive.
Payments, as usual, will be made in a staggered manner during the last 10 business days of the month, except in December, when the calendar will be advanced, according to the Ministry of Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight Against Hunger (MDS).
This is one of the government’s main social measures aimed at combating poverty and improving the quality of life for low-income families.

Payment of Bolsa Família
The staggered payments are a practice adopted to avoid overloading the banking system and ensure that beneficiaries can withdraw their amounts in a more organized manner. Payment dates are based on the last digit of the NIS, from October 18 to 31:
- October 18: NIS ending in 1
- October 21: NIS ending in 2
- October 22: NIS ending in 3
- October 23: NIS ending in 4
- October 24: NIS ending in 5
- October 25: NIS ending in 6
- October 28: NIS ending in 7
- October 29: NIS ending in 8
- October 30: NIS ending in 9
- October 31: NIS ending in 0

Additionally, there is a forecast for payments in November and December, following the same logic, but with adjustments in the last month of the year due to the holiday season.
Exceptions for Natural Disasters
However, there are important exceptions. For families residing in municipalities that have been declared in a state of emergency or public calamity by the federal government, the payment of benefits is advanced. In October 2024, 658,000 families in Rio Grande do Sul will benefit from this advance, receiving the amount on the first day of disbursement, regardless of the last digit of the NIS.
Value and Additional Benefits
Bolsa Família provides for a minimum payment of R$ 600 per family, an amount that can be increased by additional benefits according to the composition of the family group. These additional amounts are R$ 150 for each child up to six years old, R$ 50 for pregnant women, children, and adolescents between 7 and 17 years old, and R$ 50 for each baby up to six months old.
Thus, the benefit aims to cover basic needs, especially related to health and education, with a significant impact on these families’ economy.
Rules to Receive the Benefit
The main rule to qualify for the program is that the monthly family income must not exceed R$ 218 per person. To calculate, it is necessary to sum all sources of income of the family and divide by the number of members. If the result is below this amount, the family is eligible for the benefit.
Moreover, beneficiaries must comply with certain obligations set by the government. Among these requirements are maintaining school attendance of children and adolescents, prenatal care for pregnant women, and updating vaccination records.
