Trujillo Will Gain One of the First Global Factories of Synthetic Diamond Substrates for Chips, An Initiative That Foresees €2.35 Million and Over 2,100 Jobs
Trujillo, in the Spanish province of Cáceres, has gained media attention since November 2025 because Diamond Foundry selected the municipality to build a unit dedicated to high-performance chip components. Actor Leonardo DiCaprio is an investor in the company, which has increased the visibility of the initiative.
The movement gained significance because the new plant will be one of the first in the world focused on the manufacturing of diamond substrates for semiconductors.
The planned investment amounts to €2.35 million by 2029. In addition, there are expectations for the generation of hundreds of jobs and technological advancement in the region.

What Will Be Installed in Trujillo
The venture plans to create a factory aimed at producing high-yield chip components.
The focus will be on synthetic single-crystal diamonds used as semiconductor substrates. This is the foundation on which chips are built.
The installation will not replace the work already done by Diamond Foundry in the area. Therefore, the unit will expand current activities and include essential steps such as wafer cutting, grinding, and polishing. There will also be quality inspection processes.
Diamonds will be used, of course, but for technological applications and not for jewelry.
Production Stages
The combination of ingots and subsequent operations will make the process more complete. This reinforces the proposal for local specialization, which is considered strategic.
The project has been defined as a cutting-edge initiative because it creates an uncommon production chain, with several stages concentrated in a single hub.
Jobs and Qualification with the Chip Mega Factory
Official data indicates that the factory could generate around 500 direct jobs. The roles will require high professional qualification.
Another 1,600 indirect positions are expected to arise and involve various services, such as logistics and maintenance. This total may exceed 2,100 jobs.
The expectation is that the impact will be significant because it will expand job availability and encourage technological development in Trujillo.
