Common diesel and S-10 record the highest average prices in 2024 in Paraná, R$6,20 and R$6,27, according to the Edenred Ticket Log Price Index.

In 2024, the price of common diesel and S-10 prices soared, reaching average values of R$6,20 and R$6,27, respectively, in the state of Paraná. This data was revealed by the Edenred Ticket Log Price Index, a survey that tracks the behavior of transaction prices at gas stations. The highlight is the growing increase observed in the price of S-10 diesel, which refers to a purer and less polluting fuel. This has generated expectations among drivers and business owners concerned about costs operational and environmental.

With the growing demand for sustainable solutions in the mining sector, the role of S-10 diesel has been highlighted in extractive industry, contributing to cleaner and more efficient operations. This change did not happen overnight; since 2023, the transition to cleaner fuels has been a priority. Operators in the mineral exploration are increasingly inclined to adopt practices that minimize environmental impact. The choice of S-10 diesel reflects a commitment to the energy transition and to reducing pollutant emissions, especially in a context where sustainability has become crucial.

The influence of diesel on the mining scenario

At the beginning of 2023, the outlook for the fuel market was strongly focused on reducing sulfur levels. Such progress was seen as essential for mining, a sector that requires robust and innovative solutions. According to the Edenred report presented in March 2024, this change brought significant reductions in machine maintenance costs and contributed to better performance in the industry.

Several mining companies have already incorporated S-10 diesel into their operational strategies to increase productivity and reduce environmental damage. According to the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), which monitored the use of fuels throughout 2024, more than 45% of operations in the mining sector began using the less polluting fuel. This marks a vital shift toward a more sustainable future.

The adoption of S-10 diesel is expected to bring additional benefits not only to mining, but also to other industrial sectors and the urban environment. Companies are increasingly interested in ensuring a more sustainable future through the use of cleaner fuels and conscious operational practices.

Diesel price increase at the end of the year

At the end of December, the price of regular diesel reached an average of R$6,20, representing an increase of 0,81% compared to the end of the previous month. S-10 diesel was also not far behind, closing the period at R$6,27, with an increase of 0,97%. These averages represent the highest prices of 2024 for both fuels. Like gasoline and ethanol, the prices of regular diesel and S-10 increased at the end of the year due to economic and seasonal factors. Among the most influential factors, the variations in the dollar and the traditional greater demand for transportation during this period, which put pressure on the prices of both types of diesel.

Regional impact on diesel prices

Across Brazil, regular diesel and S-10 saw increases in their average prices, except in the North region, which saw stability in S-10 diesel. Douglas Pina, General Director of Mobility at Edenred Brasil, analyzed that the other regions, however, experienced increases. The Northeast was the region with the highest increases: regular diesel rose 2,10% and S-10, 1,60%. Despite this, the North region was the one that recorded the highest prices, with averages of R$6,76 for regular diesel, which had a slight increase of 0,45%, and R$6,65 for S-10, maintaining the same value as November. In the southern region of Brazil, fuel prices stood out for being the lowest nationwide, with regular diesel sold at R$6,01 and S-10 diesel at R$6,10, even after increases of 1,01% and 1,16%, respectively.

Diesel price highlights by state

According to the Edenred Ticket Log Price Index survey, the highest average price for regular diesel in December was found in Acre, costing R$7,63, after an increase of 0,39% compared to November. On the other hand, in Santa Catarina, drivers benefited from the lower price for diesel, at R$5,97, without changes compared to the previous month. The state of Ceará stood out with the highest monthly increase in the average price of regular diesel, which rose to R$6,58, an increase of 2,65%. In Amazonas, there was a significant drop of 2,98% in the average price, reaching R$6,51. In the case of S-10 diesel, Acre also recorded the highest price in December, reaching R$7,59, after an increase of 0,26%.

S-10 diesel price variations

In the state of Paraná, S-10 diesel had the lowest average price in the country, closing at R$6,08, although this represents an increase of 1,33% compared to November. Sergipe stood out for the largest percentage increase in the price of S-10 diesel, which rose 2,62% to R$6,26. In contrast, Amapá recorded the largest reduction for this type of fuel, with the average price falling to R$7,41, after a decrease of 0,94% compared to the end of November. The Edenred Ticket Log Price Index provides this data based on refueling at 21 accredited stations, using a robust data science framework to consolidate and provide reliable data, based on the large number of daily transactions managed by Edenred Ticket Log.
