Drivers in the capital of Minas Gerais will be able to refuel at prices well below the national average on the upcoming May 28th, during an event that eliminates fuel taxes and reignites the debate on the tax burden in Brazil
Drivers in Belo Horizonte are already preparing to face queues during the early morning in search of a rare discount at gas stations. On the upcoming May 28th, the capital of Minas Gerais will host another edition of the Tax-Free Day (DLI), a national campaign promising to sell gasoline at R$ 3.64 and diesel at R$ 5.62 at a station located in the Central-South region of the city.
According to information released by the Chamber of Shop Managers of Belo Horizonte (CDL-BH), the event will take place at the traditional Oceano station, popularly known as Pica-Pau station, on Contorno Avenue, 10,325, in the Barro Preto neighborhood. The initiative is part of the 20th edition of the Tax-Free Day, a movement created to draw the public’s attention to the weight of taxes embedded in the prices of products and services in Brazil.
The distribution of tickets will begin at 7 AM, while refueling will officially start at 8 AM. Even so, the expectation is that many drivers will arrive hours earlier to try to secure a spot in the queue, repeating the scenario seen in previous editions.

Fuel discount may exceed R$ 2 per liter in Belo Horizonte
The main highlight of the campaign is precisely the difference between the promotional prices and the values normally found at gas stations in the capital of Minas Gerais. According to data released by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), referring to the period between May 3rd and 9th, gasoline in Belo Horizonte was being sold, on average, at R$ 5.89 per liter.
Meanwhile, diesel recorded an average of R$ 7.06 in the same period.
With the symbolic removal of state and federal taxes, consumers will be able to save about R$ 2.25 per liter on gasoline and more than R$ 2 on diesel. The significant difference reinforces one of the main objectives of the campaign: to demonstrate the direct impact of the tax burden on the pockets of Brazilians.
According to the event organizers, approximately 36% of the final fuel price corresponds to tax charges.
In addition to the immediate savings, the event usually generates significant repercussion on social media and attracts consumers interested in understanding how taxes influence the cost of living in the country.

To prevent abuse and allow more drivers to participate in the event, the organization has set specific refueling limits by vehicle type.
Check out the rules released for the event in Belo Horizonte:
- Cars can refuel up to 32.9 liters, with a maximum limit of R$ 120
- Motorcycles will have a limit of 11 liters, totaling up to R$ 40
- Trucks can refuel up to 97.8 liters, with a cap of R$ 550
In addition, there will be strict monitoring during refueling. The fuel must be placed exclusively in the vehicle’s tank, and the use of jerrycans, buckets, external containers, or any other type of improvised storage is prohibited.
The measure aims to prevent irregular resale and ensure greater safety throughout the entire operation.
Another important point involves the arrival time. In previous years, drivers began to queue up during the early morning, mainly due to the limitation on the number of distributed tickets.
Tax-Free Day takes place in several cities across Brazil
Created to raise awareness among the population about the high Brazilian tax burden, Tax-Free Day brings together companies from various sectors that sell products and services without passing on part of the taxes to the consumer.
The campaign takes place annually in several cities across the country and usually includes discounts on fuel, electronics, clothing, food, medicine, and even services.
According to data from the Impostômetro, a tool maintained by the São Paulo Commercial Association (ACSP), Brazilians have already paid approximately R$ 1.6 trillion in taxes in 2026 alone.
In this sense, the movement seeks to stimulate the debate on tax transparency and fiscal awareness, practically showing how taxes influence the prices paid daily by the population.
In Belo Horizonte, it is expected that this year’s edition will be one of the busiest in recent times, especially in light of the recent rise in fuel prices and the direct impact on family budgets.
