Strategic Meeting Addressed the Results of the First Public Call for the Acquisition of Renewable Fuel and the Fundamental Role of Petrobras in the Energy Transition.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) and Petrobras held a meeting this week. The meeting served to present the results of the first Public Call aimed at the acquisition of biomethane. Discussions focused on the prospects for the expansion of this market.
During the meeting, representatives from Petrobras detailed the data obtained from the Public Call. The mapping of the existing supply of biomethane was addressed. The growing interest of different Brazilian regions in providing the renewable fuel was also noted.
Strategic Role of Petrobras in the National Energy Transition
The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, participated in the meeting. He emphasized the strategic role of Petrobras in the country’s energy transition. “Petrobras plays a fundamental role in building a fair, inclusive, and balanced energy transition,” said Silveira. The minister highlighted that the consolidation of the biomethane market is essential. This will allow for the increased use of renewable fuels. Additionally, it will generate new economic and social opportunities for Brazil.

Petrobras Supports Initiatives to Encourage Biomethane
Petrobras also expressed its support for actions by the MME. The state-owned company praised the initiative to put the draft decree instituting the Biomethane Incentive Program out for public consultation. This measure is provided for in the recently enacted Future Fuel Law (14.993/24).
Regulatory Agility as a Key Factor for the Market
Representatives from Petrobras emphasized the importance of agility in the regulatory process. According to the company, this speed is crucial. It will enable the mandate for biomethane. Consequently, it will help consolidate the market for this fuel in the country.
Relevant Attendees at the Strategic Meeting
In addition to the technical team from Petrobras and the minister, the meeting included other important participants. The national secretary of Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels of the MME, Pietro Mendes, was present. The director of the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), Mariana Cavadinha, also participated in the discussions.
