BYD Invests In A New Battery Factory For Electric Buses In Brazil, Consolidating Its Leadership In The Sustainable Mobility Market. Discover How This Mega Project Promises To Impact The Transport Industry In The Country!
This Tuesday (22), BYD Battery Industrial Ltd. announced new investments in a new battery factory in the Manaus Industrial Hub (PIM) during a meeting with the Superintendent of the Free Trade Zone of Manaus (Suframa).
The Chinese company, known for its work in the electric vehicle and solar energy technology sector, confirmed the expansion of its industrial plant with the installation of a production line dedicated to “blades” – the new generation of battery modules, which will be used in the manufacturing of electric buses.
In addition, BYD revealed the creation of a new line for the production of busbars. These components will serve not only the factories located in the Free Trade Zone of Manaus (ZFM) but also facilities in São Paulo and the new factory in Bahia, where the company already produces light electric vehicles.

Meeting Between BYD And Suframa
The meeting, held at Suframa’s headquarters, was attended by Superintendent Bosco Saraiva and a delegation from BYD, represented by the general director of the plant in Manaus, Johnny Jiang, tax manager Liza Ribeiro, as well as other representatives such as Cleber Costa (supply chain) and Wilson Filho (engineering).
During the meeting, the relevance of the company’s new investments for the region was highlighted, especially regarding job creation.
According to Liza Ribeiro, the expansion of the plant is expected to generate between 75 and 90 new job positions. “Our factory is highly automated, but we will still be able to create new job openings,” said Liza, emphasizing the positive impact of the investments on the region’s economic development.

Expansion History
Installed in the Free Trade Zone of Manaus since 2019, BYD began its operations the following year, in 2020, focusing on the production of electric modules for buses. The company has been standing out for its commitment to innovation and sustainability, which has positioned it as one of the main players in the electric vehicle market in Brazil.
In March 2024, BYD had already signaled its intention to expand its operations during a previous visit to Suframa, when it mentioned the agency’s support in the approval process of the Basic Production Process (PPB) for the Electric Bus Battery Module.
This process was essential to ensure the security and continuity of the company’s operations in the country, as the PPB approved by the Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services (MDIC) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) allowed the company to expand its activities.
Benefits For Brazil
Superintendent Bosco Saraiva reinforced the importance of BYD’s investments for the region, highlighting that the company is bringing to Manaus what is most advanced in the field of vehicle electrification in Brazil.
Moreover, he emphasized that this modernization will directly contribute to the local population and to the country as a whole, aiding in the decarbonization of mobility in Brazil. “We are facing a project that not only boosts the industrial development of Manaus but also helps to protect the environment,” highlighted Saraiva.
Sustainability As A Priority
Sustainability has been one of the central pillars of BYD’s operations in Brazil. With the new investments, the company intends to consolidate its position in the electric vehicle market, offering solutions that not only meet the demand for sustainable transportation but also bring significant environmental benefits.
The decarbonization of the vehicle fleet in the country is one of BYD’s main objectives, which aims to be a catalyst in the transition to a future with lower pollutant emissions.
The expansion of BYD’s production plant in Manaus, along with new investments in other regions of Brazil, reinforces the company’s commitment to technological innovation and sustainability.
At the same time, the creation of new jobs and the strengthening of the local economy show that international investments in the electric vehicle sector are fundamental for the growth of the country.
The arrival of new production lines and the increase in the number of jobs are just some of the benefits that BYD’s investments will bring to Manaus and to Brazil as a whole. The company solidifies itself as one of the main leaders in the electric vehicle sector, always with a focus on sustainability and industrial development.
