Model Will Be Presented at the Auto Show with Exclusive Design and Hybrid Engine; Sales Start in 2026
The new pickup from BYD was spotted testing in Brazil and is already circulating with a definitive body. The model, unprecedented even in China, will be officially revealed in November during the Auto Show in São Paulo. The information was published by the specialized profile @placaverde and confirmed by Autoesporte.
The mid-size truck will be the main launch of the Chinese brand in 2025 and will play a strategic role in the country. Despite the imminent presentation, the new pickup from BYD will only reach dealerships in 2026. Sources linked to the manufacturer indicate that the model will have national production and will be positioned below the Shark.
Pickup Will Be Based on the SUV Song Plus and Aims Rivalry with Fiat Toro

The new pickup from BYD will use the platform of the SUV Song Plus as a base, sharing several visual elements, especially in the creases of the doors and in the front structure. The proposal is to compete in the same segment as the Fiat Toro and Renault Oroch, betting on a monocoque project with hybrid powertrain.

Avelloz left the Northeast to become Brazil’s 5th top-selling motorcycle brand, surpassing 130,000 units sold, and is now targeting expansion in the South and Southeast with new models, a national network, and a focus on the popular entry-level segment.
In design, the model is expected to adopt a unique bumper and a new front grille, while the rear will follow the style of the Shark pickup. Even camouflaged, the spotted unit showcases a horizontal LED bar connecting the taillights and the “BYD” lettering stamped on the bed cover — a trend that reinforces the brand’s visual identity in Brazil.
Hybrid Powertrain and Likely DM-i Flex System Expected to Equip the Pickup
Although the brand has not yet confirmed the technical specifications, it is virtually certain that the new pickup from BYD will use the DM-i hybrid system, already established in the Song Plus. This means that the model is expected to combine a 1.5 naturally aspirated engine with an electric motor, forming a setup with 235 hp and 40.8 kgfm of torque, according to data from the SUV.
The transmission will be the same e-CVT with a physical gear, with electric support in the other ratios, promoting linear acceleration and energy efficiency. Sources close to BYD suggest that the configuration is already prepared to be hybrid flex, which would give the model a significant advantage in the national market against combustion rivals.
National Production Expected to Take Place in Camaçari (BA) Starting in 2026
Another strategic point for the success of the new pickup from BYD is the local production in Camaçari (BA). The brand has already resumed work at the former Ford plant and plans to assemble up to eight vehicles in Brazil by 2026. With this, the truck can benefit from tax incentives and a more efficient supply chain.
The bet on an intermediate monocoque model, with modern mechanics and reduced operating costs, signals BYD’s intention to capture the urban utility market. The arrival of the “baby Shark” could represent a turning point in the segment, with a direct impact on models like the Fiat Toro, Ford Maverick, and even the upcoming Chevrolet Montana hybrid.
Do you think the new pickup from BYD will be able to face the Fiat Toro and other rivals? Does the hybrid version seem like a real advantage to you? Leave your opinion in the comments!
