Collaboration Between BYD Brazil, Gera and Raízen Enables the Construction of Photovoltaic Complexes That Will Supply Around 48 Thousand People Per Month, Boosting Renewable Energy in the Country.
An important partnership between BYD Brazil and the joint venture Gera + Raizen (RGD) culminated in the construction and installation of nine solar power plants. These projects are located in four Brazilian states: Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio de Janeiro, and Pará. Together, the units have the capacity to generate more than 59 million kWh annually.
Clean Energy and Socio-Environmental Impact of the New Plants
The nine solar power plants are capable of generating enough energy to supply around 48 thousand people per month. This calculation considers an average consumption of 300kWh per household. Over 30 years, the operation of these plants is equivalent to planting approximately 528,360 trees, a significant environmental benefit.
Sócrates Rodrigues, Director of Projects at BYD Brazil, stated: “This partnership is part of our mission to accelerate the energy transition to a cleaner and more accessible matrix, reducing global temperatures. Solar energy is one of the main pillars for this sustainable future, which has already begun, and we are at the forefront of this process.” In addition to clean energy, the construction projects generate positive regional impacts. All units have rainwater harvesting systems for internal use. The construction predominantly utilized local labor. In total, more than a thousand temporary jobs were created during the construction.

Thousands of houses in Brazil have slabs and pillars concreted with construction site mixers, and most owners are unaware that, without strict control of the dosage, this can compromise the structure’s strength and create risks that only appear years later, according to engineers and technical standards.
Technology and Innovation in Solar Projects Construction
BYD has a standard of requirements that ensures the standardization of the construction system across all projects. These include the use of the best technologies, materials, and equipment in the market. Examples include the electrocenters constructed in masonry, equipped with ventilation to optimize thermal exchange.
The installations also include a rainwater collection and reuse system. They use solar tracker mounting structures known as trackers. Operational reliability is ensured by constant monitoring and fully remote operation. Additionally, a battery bank ensures monitoring of the plant even in the event of an interruption in energy supply by the local utility. Rodrigues adds: “BYD has an experienced engineering team ready to meet the various demands of the Full EPC Solar solution market. The project is delivered connected to the grid and operating.”
Details of the Plants by State
In Ceará, three plants have been implemented. The Amontada plant covers 6.6 hectares with 5,712 photovoltaic modules, generating 6.8 million kWh/year and supplying 5,679 people/month. Its construction created 178 jobs. In Itapipoca, the Betânia plant, with 5,264 modules on 5.5 hectares, generates 6.5 million kWh/year for 5,424 people/month, employing 125 workers in construction. The Boa Viagem plant, on 7.7 hectares with 5,712 panels, produces 6.6 million kWh/year for 5,547 people/month, generating 103 jobs during construction.
In Ceará-Mirim, in Rio Grande do Norte, two plants operate on 4.8 hectares, totaling 4,592 modules. Together, they generate 5.3 million kWh/year, serving 4,494 people/month. During construction, 193 workers were hired, prioritizing local residents. In the northern region of Fluminense, a plant near Estrada Santa Luzia occupies 5.5 hectares with 5,488 modules. It generates 5.8 million kWh/year for 4,845 people/month, and its construction created 130 jobs. Also in Campos, the Fazenda São João plant, one of the largest, has 8,232 modules on 9.5 hectares. It produces 8.6 million kWh/year for 7,236 people/month, with 134 workers employed in construction.
The two plants in Santarém, in Pará, form the largest solar complex of the partnership. They occupy 13.6 hectares with 11,424 modules. The combined annual generation is 13.2 million kWh, supplying 11,037 people/month. The construction involved 193 workers, with an emphasis on local labor.
Vision for the Future and Post-Construction Support
André Castro, CEO of the RGD JV from GERA with RAIZEN, stated: “We are very happy with the partnership with BYD for implementing these projects and others we may develop in the future. We understand that this partnership started will have many opportunities in the future in the areas of solar projects, electrification, and especially energy storage.”
The support service includes training for local teams, delivery of operating manuals, and specialized technical follow-up. The project has a contractually defined technical assistance warranty starting from the official delivery of each plant. The modules used in the projects carry a 25-year performance warranty.
