The BYD Seal Hybrid Is About to Arrive in the Brazilian Market and Promises to Be a Best Seller. The Model Has a Range of 1,300 km and Great Performance.
The plug-in BYD Seal Hybrid has just been registered in Brazil. Available in two powertrain options, the sedan stands out for its extensive range in combined mode of up to 1,300 km and an electric range of up to 200 km on a single charge. Launched in September, the BYD Seal DM-i PHEV is priced between 166,800 and 236,800 yuan, equivalent to R$ 117,500 and R$ 166,800 in direct conversion, respectively.

In total, there are six trim options and two powertrains in the Chinese market. Right off the bat, it is noticeable that there is a lot of difference between the BYD Seal Hybrid and the fully electric version, except for the front grille design.
The electric version features a closed front grille while the hybrid version adopts a slatted grille. Another highlight of the plug-in hybrid is the color called Phantom Red. The BYD Seal Hybrid is 18 cm longer than the electric Seal.

The new model measures 4.98 meters in length, 1.89 meters in width (15 mm wider), 1.49 meters in height (35 mm), and has a wheelbase of a substantial 2.90 meters. The hybrid sedan can also come with 17, 18, or 19-inch wheels, depending on the version. Internally, the Seal Hybrid adopts a more conventional and sober theme, in contrast to the sportier style of the electric version.
Another highlight of the BYD Seal includes the trim details with a wood-like appearance, such as the center console and door panels. The dashboard follows the standard of the electric version, featuring a head-up display and a two-spoke steering wheel with a flat bottom, however, there is a new DiLink 5.0 operating system supported by Qualcomm 7325 chips.
BYD Seal Hybrid Can Deliver Up to 214 Horsepower
In terms of powertrain, the BYD Seal Hybrid is powered by BYD’s DM-i technology and the Blade battery. A 1.5L engine with 81 kW (108 horsepower) and 135 Nm paired with an electric unit of 145 kW, equivalent to 194 horsepower and 325 Nm of torque.
The 1.5 turbo engine with 102 kW (136 horsepower) and 231 Nm is paired with an electric unit of 160 kW (214 horsepower) and 325 Nm of torque. The former can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds, has an NEDC electric range of 121 km, and a combined range of 1,200 km. The turbo version can go from 0 to 100 km in 7.9 seconds, with an electric range of 200 km and 1,300 km, respectively.

In terms of charging, detailed specifications have not been disclosed, however, BYD mentions a recharge from 30% to 80% in just 19 minutes for the model with the larger battery. Although the registration alone does not guarantee a launch, the automaker is working to bring more hybrid models to the Brazilian market. This includes the Seal PHEV, which could face competitively priced sedans like the Honda Civic Hybrid.
BYD Plans to Bring Combustion Cars to the National Market
Being the first mid-sized sedan from BYD, the BYD Qin Plus will have a very competitive price, facing the Corolla and Sentra. Developed on the same modular platform as the Song Plus and Dolphin, BYD’s new affordable sedan is very sophisticated, meeting the high demand from customers in this category, which consists of people seeking comfort and embedded technology.
