Geely’s Electric Compact Car Debuts in Brazil in Partnership with Renault, Promising Urban Range, 14.6” Multimedia Center, and Competitive Pricing Against Brands Like BYD and Toyota. Model Aims to Gain Ground in the Entry-Level Electric Segment.

The Geely EX2, the electric car that leads sales in China, arrives in the Brazilian market with a range of up to 289 km (Inmetro standard), 116 hp engine, and 14.6” multimedia center.

The model is part of the Chinese automaker’s expansion strategy, which has partnered with Renault to operate in a structured manner in the country.

The original title contains a grammatical error — the correct form would be “Best-Selling Car”.

Industrial Partnership and Operations with Renault

Geely’s entry into Brazil is linked to an industrial cooperation with Renault.

The agreement stipulates that the Chinese brand will have access to Renault’s factory in São José dos Pinhais (PR) for the assembly and distribution of its vehicles, utilizing part of the partner’s commercial network.

The operation involves a 26.4% stake in Geely in Renault’s Brazilian subsidiary.

According to the companies, the goal is to leverage the existing structure to reduce costs and accelerate the arrival of new models in the market.

Electric Line and Positioning in Brazil

With the EX2, Geely expands its electric line in the country, which already includes the SUV EX5.

Geely EX2 arrives in Brazil with 289 km of range, 116 hp engine, and 14.6” multimedia center, ready to compete with BYD and Toyota.

The new compact hatch is geared towards urban use and positioned as an entry-level option among 100% electric models.

According to the manufacturer, the EX2 was one of the best-selling cars in China in 2024, which demonstrates the brand’s potential volume in large-scale markets.

Dimensions and Interior of the Geely EX2

The EX2 measures 4.13 m in length, 1.80 m in width, and 2.65 m in wheelbase.

The model accommodates up to five occupants and features an 8.8” digital panel and a 14.6” high-definition multimedia screen.

Depending on the version, the vehicle may include features such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), 540° panoramic camera, power-adjustable driver’s seat, and contrasting paint roof.

These items, according to Geely, were designed to make the model competitive in a segment that traditionally offers simpler packages.

Performance, Engine, and Battery

The EX2’s electric motor delivers 116 hp of power and 150 Nm (15.3 kgfm) of torque.

The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.2 seconds and 0 to 50 km/h in 3.9 seconds, according to official data from the brand.

The lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack has a capacity of 39.4 kWh and offers a range of up to 289 km, based on Inmetro measurements.

At fast chargers, recharging from 30% to 80% takes about 21 minutes, according to the manufacturer’s information.

Equipment, Connectivity, and Safety

The 14.6” full HD multimedia center integrates media controls, climate settings, and vehicle configurations.

There is compatibility with wireless Apple CarPlay, and integration with Android Auto is expected to be included in a software update.

The most complete version includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping alerts and corrections, and autonomous emergency braking, in addition to six airbags and electronic stability control.

According to automotive industry analysts, this package places the model at a level similar to more expensive rivals.

Internal Space and the “Frunk”

The rear trunk has 375 liters, expandable to 1,320 liters with the folding of the split rear seats.

The car also has an additional compartment under the hood, nicknamed the “frunk”, with a capacity of 70 liters.

According to Geely, this solution was created to increase practicality in transporting small items, such as backpacks and charging cables.

The idea, explains Milena Martins, responsible for marketing and communication at Geely Brazil, was to combine functionality with a unique identity for the model.

There is also extra space under the rear seats for smaller items.

Structure and Dynamic Behavior

The EX2 uses McPherson suspension in the front and multilink in the rear, a configuration more common in higher-category vehicles.

According to the manufacturer, this choice aims to improve comfort and stability on uneven surfaces.

Automotive engineering experts point out that this arrangement can offer a smoother ride and a more balanced response in curves, although the results depend on the calibration adopted for the Brazilian market.

Prices and Versions Available in Brazil

The EX2 arrives in the country in two main versions.

The initial configuration costs R$ 119,990, with a promotional launch price, while the Max version, more equipped, starts at R$ 135,100.

Both include six airbags, digital air conditioning with rear vents, LED headlights and taillights, and a rearview camera.

The top-of-the-line model adds adaptive cruise control, power seat for the driver, and 540° camera.

The package aims to balance technological features and operational costs, according to Geely.

Global Strategy of Geely Auto Group

The Geely Auto Group, founded in 1997 and headquartered in Hangzhou, China, manages brands such as Geely Auto, Lynk & Co, and Zeekr.

In 2024, the group sold 2.17 million vehicles, a 32% increase compared to the previous year.

Industry sources evaluate that the official entry into Brazil is part of a broader plan for expansion in emerging markets, leveraging the company’s experience with large-scale electrification.

The partnership with Renault, analysts say, should help to reduce logistical barriers and strengthen the after-sales network.
