CBGD and EXPOGD 2024 Energize the Distributed Generation Sector with Debates and Business Focused on Renewable Energy and Energy Transition.

The 2024 edition of CBGD and EXPOGD surprised the Distributed Generation sector, generating a significant impact on transactions and agreements. With a focus on innovations and clean energy, the event brought together experts and influencers to discuss the advancement of this energy model. Over the days, new partnerships and alliances were formed, expanding the possibilities within the field.

At the event, the importance of Distributed Generation was highlighted through intense debates and panels. In a scenario where sustainable energy is becoming increasingly essential, the topics addressed included both DG and distributed micro generation. Participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences and learn about the latest technologies and solutions that promise to transform the sector.
On October 30 and 31, 2024, ExpoMinas, located in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, was the chosen venue for the 9th Brazilian Congress of Distributed Generation (CBGD), consolidated as the main event dedicated to microgeneration and mini generation with renewable energy sources in Latin America. This congress, held by the FRG Media & Events Group, attracted more than 5,000 participants, generating millions in business opportunities. Thus, it stood out as an essential platform for discussing and developing new technologies and solutions in the Distributed Generation sector.

Growth of Distributed Generation in Brazil

Carlos Evangelista, serving as president of the Brazilian Association of Distributed Generation (ABGD), emphasized that the Distributed Generation market is in full expansion in Brazil. Recently, the country reached the impressive mark of 33 GW of installed capacity, equivalent to two and a half Itaipus in terms of power coming from renewable energy sources. This number encompasses various energy sources, such as solar photovoltaic energy, biomass, biogas, and green hydrogen, among others. Currently, there are over three million Distributed Generation systems in operation in Brazil, reaching almost all municipalities, benefiting around 4.2 million consumer units. Additionally, this sector has already received investments totaling 140 billion reais and generated over 850,000 jobs. According to Evangelista, the CBGD represents a clear example of the continuous growth of the sector.

‘We highlighted, at this event, the presence of various players from different sectors. We are talking about installers, manufacturers, EPC contractors, consulting firms, and law offices, all involved, directly or indirectly, in the scope of DG and contributing significantly to the global energy transition’, explains Evangelista.

Minas Gerais as a Protagonist in Distributed Generation

Minas Gerais stands out as one of the main contributors to the advancement of Distributed Generation in Brazil. With a comprehensive program, CBGD 2024 promoted relevant discussions about the vital role of renewable energies within the Brazilian energy matrix, highlighting the importance of these sources in fulfilling the country’s commitments established in the Paris Agreement during COP21. The choice of Belo Horizonte to host the event was strategic. The city showcases the potential of Minas Gerais to excel in the sector, especially in solar photovoltaic energy generation.

According to Gil Pereira, a congressman involved in promoting this source in the state, 20% of the solar photovoltaic energy in all of Brazil originates from Minas Gerais. This growth is largely driven by public policies that favor the sector, such as the exemption from ICMS. ‘The solar revolution in Brazil began in Minas Gerais. […

Currently, all municipalities have solar installations, covering residences, businesses, industries, and the agricultural sector, which require significant investments. In Janaúba, for example, there is the largest solar plant in Latin America, with a capacity of 1.3 GW’, he states.

Innovations and Sustainable Future at the 9th EXPOGD

Alongside the congress, the 9th EXPOGD 2024 (Brazilian Distributed Generation Fair) featured participation from over 100 exhibitors. These exhibitors showcased the latest innovations in technologies related to DG, providing a clear view of the future prospects for the renewable energy sector. According to the organization, the fair was an excellent opportunity for participants to closely learn about new equipment, products, and solutions that drive DG. This also fostered the generation of new businesses and the establishment of networks among companies and professionals.

Among the companies that participated as sponsors and exhibitors are: PHB, Trina Solar, Huasun, PV Operation; along with Edeltec, Fortleve, Embrastec, Inoxpar, Sungrow, WEG, Brameta, Otus, Belmicro, MetalLightd, and Sankós. Also present were the exhibitors: Bao Ribeiro, CCM, Soollar Dist, Inovabras, Dynamo, FMGD, GM Estruturas, Fotovolt, Por Dentro de Minas, FRG Group, and G7.

Finally, Tiago Fraga, CEO of the FRG Media & Events Group, emphasized that the 9th CBGD reaffirmed its commitment to advancing renewable energies and sustainability in Brazilian territory, especially by bringing together the main players in the sector and encouraging high-level discussions about the future of Distributed Generation. The event maintained its prestige as one of the most relevant meetings focused on sustainable energies in the country.
