The Construction of the Wind Farm of Petrobras with Equinor Is Still in the Development Phase by the Companies, and the Forecast Is That the Enterprise Will Match the Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant in Energy Production
Equinor, together with Petrobras, is designing the construction of an offshore wind farm that will have a production capacity equivalent to that of the Itaipu plant. The announcement was made during an event held in Houston, United States, according to Yahoo Finance.
The Petrobras project with Equinor will be under review until 2028, and if everything goes as planned after that time, the wind farm will feature 7 plants for wind energy generation with a generating capacity of 14.5 gigawatts. According to Jean Paul Prates, president of Petrobras: “What we are announcing here today is an Itaipu of (energy) wind.”
According to an estimate from Petrobras, the total value of the energy venture could amount to US$ 70 billion, based on the current cost of megawatt for offshore wind energy based on the projected energy production capacity.

Offshore Energy Production
According to Prates, energy production in Petrobras’s offshore field with Equinor could take 6 to 10 years to start, with investments in the venture already being included in Petrobras’s business plans.
According to Verônica Coelho, president of Equinor, investments in the offshore wind energy venture are worth billions of dollars as it is a large project that requires a lot of research.
Petrobras and Equinor stated that the decision on who will operate the offshore energy field will be made soon, with actions focused on wind research. Thus, the two companies signed a letter of intent, as per a statement released to the market.
The Partnership Between Petrobras and Equinor
The offshore wind energy project developed by Petrobras and Equinor is part of a partnership that was established between them in 2018.
The scope of the research between the companies has been expanded to include more than just the two wind farms Aracatu I and II, which are located on the border of the coast between the states of Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo.
The agreement between the companies also includes the evaluation of the viability of offshore wind farms in Piauí, in Manguara; in Ceará, in Colibri and Ibitucatu; and also in Atobá and Ibituassu, in Rio Grande do Sul. In total, there are 7 offshore wind energy projects with a term of validity until 2028.
