New Monza 2024 in Brazil? Chevrolet’s Mid-Size Sedan That Came to Replace Onix and Cruze Is the New Nightmare for Toyota Corolla!
In a turn of events in the automotive world, Chevrolet, one of the largest car manufacturers in the world, launches a new strategy to win the hearts and garages of consumers with the return of a classic, the new Monza 2024, which promises to be Toyota’s nightmare! Positioned in the Chinese market at an attractive price of 61,800 yuan (about R$ 43,000 in direct conversion without taxes), the vehicle aims to reestablish the brand as a leader in this crucial automotive territory. In Brazil, it is estimated that this classic will arrive later this year and be sold for less than R$ 90,000, making it R$ 50,000 cheaper than the Corolla.
Although the Onix Plus has become a true legend on Brazilian roads, marking its territory as an undisputed leader, it did not replicate this success in China, a vital market for Chevrolet. Its sales in the Asian nation were deemed insufficient by the company. Despite the challenges, Chevrolet launches in China the return to the market of one of the great automotive classics, the Monza, aiming to revitalize its image with this new offer. Toyota

With a single-cylinder engine, the new Yamaha gets 80 km with 2 liters, delivers 12 hp at 8,000 rpm, features traction control, a 19% stiffer chassis, 267 mm brakes, and a 4.6-inch digital panel for around R$ 12,000.
The launch of the new Monza has an estimated price of around 61,800 yuan, equivalent to approximately R$ 43,000 (direct conversion value and without taxes). Visually, the model shows affinities with the Onix in the rear and side profile. However, the front grille, marked by a distinctive X-shaped design and perfectly aligned with the headlights, recalls the modern style of the new Blazer and the Seeker coupe SUV, both produced in China.
Goodbye Onix and Cruze, the New Monza Comes with a 109-Horsepower Engine and 14.3 kgfm of Torque
The LED headlights of the new Monza evoke memories of those used in the Cruze sedan. As for dimensions, the length of the new Monza is quite similar to that of the Cruze, reaching 4.66 meters. However, its wheelbase is slightly reduced, measuring 2.64 meters, compared to the 2.70 meters of the mid-size sedan available in Brazil.Toyota
Inside the Monza, a modern environment is expected. The sedan adopts an innovative design with two 10.25-inch screens, fitted into a single frame, serving both as the instrument panel and multimedia center, similar to the Tracker RS sold in China. Additionally, the vehicle offers wireless charging for smartphones, an electronic parking brake, heated front seats, a blind-spot warning system, and external rearview mirrors with defrosting functions. In a clear attempt to overcome the criticisms faced by the Onix, the Monza does away with the less favored three-cylinder engines among Chinese consumers. In its simplest configuration, it comes equipped with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, capable of delivering 109 horsepower and 14.3 kgfm of torque, a powertrain familiar to the Chinese as it is present in other Chevrolet models. This version can be paired with either a six-speed automatic or manual transmission. With the 1.5 engine, the Monza reaches 100 km/h in 12.9 seconds and offers an efficient consumption of 17 km/l in the city and 20 km/l on the highway, according to the Chinese measurement standard. The second alternative arriving on the automotive scene raises the bar with a 1.3 turbo engine, incorporating sophisticated 48V mild hybrid technology. This configuration delivers a power of 163 horsepower and a torque of 23.4 kgfm at just 1,800 rpm, coupled with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, promising a revitalized driving experience with high energy efficiency. Toyota
Chevrolet highlights that the new Monza 2024 reaches 100 km/h in just 9.2 seconds, along with notable fuel consumption performance, achieving 20 km/l in the city and 20.9 km/l on the highway. In addition to its presence in the Chinese market, the Monza crosses borders, reaching Mexico under the name Cavalier, thus expanding its global footprint. Toyota
