What’s at stake is much more than a vacancy; it’s the chance for a stable career with various growth opportunities.
The announcement was made during a solemn event on Monday morning, October 14, 2024, at the General Command Headquarters in Palmas, Tocantins.
Governor Wanderlei Barbosa, from the Republican Party, announced that the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV) will be responsible for conducting the selection process.
There will be 600 vacancies for soldiers and 60 for officers, totaling 660 opportunities that are expected to attract candidates from all over Brazil.
Details of the Vacancies and Organizing Body
According to the governor, FGV, one of the most renowned institutions in the country, was chosen as the organizing body due to its reputation and ability to conduct a large-scale contest with integrity and quality.
The governor himself highlighted the importance of this choice: “We want to ensure that this contest is transparent and without problems throughout its progress”, stated Wanderlei Barbosa.
The expectation is that the process will be one of the most competitive in the country, given the prestige of the Military Police of Tocantins and the good conditions offered to the approved candidates.
The contest will offer not only stability but also good salaries and benefits, attracting candidates from various regions.
Reserve Registration and the Controversy of the Previous Contest
According to the G1 portal, one of the most discussed points during the event was the situation of the reserve registration from the previous contest of the PM.
According to the governor, “there is always pressure from those who are on the reserve list, and we held meetings with various authorities, including the Public Prosecutor’s Office, to discuss the issue”.
Barbosa explained that, while he understands the frustration of candidates who were not called, the new announcement will be prepared with the aim of avoiding future problems.
He also indicated that, if the new contest allows, there will be space for candidates from the reserve list to be called in the future, but emphasized that the focus is on keeping the process within legality, without compromising future administrations.
Division of the Public Security Fund and Investments in the PM
During the event, another noteworthy announcement was the allocation of 50% of the Public Security Fund directly to the Military Police of Tocantins.
According to the governor, “the security fund is managed by the Secretary of Public Security and allocated to the three security forces”.
However, he determined that half of the funds be directed to the PM due to its large contingent and importance in public safety in the state.
Moreover, Wanderlei Barbosa mentioned that the resources will be used to improve the infrastructure and working conditions of police officers, focusing on renovations and new equipment.
“We know how important military police officers are to the population of Tocantins. They are present during our most difficult moments”, stated the governor.
Investments in Vehicles and Security Equipment
Still at the same event, 50 new vehicles were delivered to the corporation, demonstrating the government’s commitment to improving the structure and working conditions of police officers.
The governor also mentioned that the Military Police will receive new weapons and high-quality security equipment, emphasizing the importance of “being in a good vehicle, with good weaponry and top-quality security material”.
This series of investments aims to further enhance the corporation and ensure that police officers have the best possible conditions to perform their duties, which, according to the government, directly reflects on the safety of the population.

With so many vacancies and a strong organizing body, the PM contest of Tocantins promises to attract thousands of candidates from all corners of Brazil.
