Hyundai Has Just Announced Its New Electric Car, Ioniq 6, Which Promises to Be a Worthy Competitor to the Tesla Model 3. Vehicle Delivers 580 km of Range and Futuristic Design.
Hyundai has unveiled its electric sedan called Ioniq 6, which will compete side by side with the Tesla Model 3, an electric car that was awarded World Car of the Year. The model from the South Korean brand features an art deco style and a striking look, however, its biggest advantage is providing a driving experience surprisingly similar to combustion models.
Hyundai Ioniq 6 Offers Driving Experience Similar to Gasoline Cars
While Tesla focused on producing fast, stylish, and interesting electric cars, such as the Tesla Model 3, Hyundai chose to develop a vehicle that looks like an ordinary car but is powered by electricity.
With an initial price around US$ 40,000, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 has a range of up to 580 km and features fast charging capabilities. The model has a futuristic look that resembles a sci-fi movie, yet its drivability is very similar to that of a gasoline car. This could be a significant differentiator for those seeking an electric car without many frills.

A common practice in traffic can be costly: using the hazard lights incorrectly can result in fines, points on your driver’s license, and even towing of the vehicle.
The model arrives on the market to compete directly with the Tesla Model 3 and seems ready to take on this challenge. With high demand for electric models, the South Korean automaker bets on a vehicle that has style, practicality, and technology.
The sedan is built on the same electric platform as the Hyundai Motor Group, which also powers other high-performance electric models, such as the Genesis GV60, Kia EV6 GT, and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Hyundai Ioniq 6 Offers Multiple Versions
The competitor to the Tesla Model 3 features a 77.4 kWh battery and is available in rear-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive options. The model boasts the greatest range of the E-GMP platform.
The rear-wheel drive Ioniq 6 SE version provides an EPA-estimated range of 580 km, surpassing Tesla’s vehicle. The all-wheel drive version has a range of 508 km. Meanwhile, the SEL and Limited versions of the Hyundai Ioniq come with more luxury features, but this reduces the range to 490 km and 434 km with all-wheel drive.
A base version of the electric car with a 53 kWh battery will be launched between June and September, during the American summer, with 149 horsepower and a range of up to 386 km.
Features of Hyundai’s New Electric Car
The decision to launch an electric sedan is a great change, as most automakers are releasing electric SUVs. Smaller, lower, and lighter cars perform better and have greater range compared to larger ones. The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is an excellent option for those wishing to switch to an electric vehicle without sacrificing performance and size.
The design of the Ioniq 6 is based on the classic streamliners of the 1930s and features better aerodynamics than the Ioniq 5, with a drag coefficient of 0.22 to maximize range. The front bumper includes active air flaps that close to reduce air resistance and open to maximize cooling.
The electric car boasts over 700 pixels in its appearance, and its design has received mixed reviews, with some praising the look and others criticizing the front appearance and trunk capacity.
