The Tesla factory in Austin, Texas (USA) known as “Gigafactory” tripled the number of employees at its factories between 2021 and 2022, with this growth being even greater than expected by the automotive giant. In 2021, the facility in Texas had 3,523 workers, but by the end of 2022 that number rose to 12,277, according to information from Bloomberg and the website Olhar Digital. Job creation in factories spread across the U.S. state helped Texas become a leader in job growth in the United States.

Having a size larger than 100 football fields combined, Tesla’s factory in Texas is being quoted to produce the highly anticipated “Cybertruck,” as well as already producing some units of the electric vehicle Model Y. In early April, Tesla announced and celebrated the production of 4,000 units of the crossover in just 7 days.

Tesla Factory In Texas Is One Of The Largest Of The Brand

The Tesla factory in Texas is its fifth Gigafactory, alongside only the company’s factory in Nevada, New York, Shanghai (China), and Berlin (Germany). Approximately US$ 5.81 billion has been invested in the factory by the end of 2022, with Tesla stating that it plans to invest an additional US$ 770 million in an expansion of the factory. The company’s goal is to add a specific place for battery cell testing and a manufacturing site for cathode and drive units to the factory.

New Tesla Battery Factory Will Be Built In Shanghai, China

In addition to the success of its factory in Texas, Tesla is already further expanding its range of units. This time, the giant will build a new battery factory in Shanghai, which will increase its investments in China amid rising tensions between Washington and Beijing.

Tesla will build the “Megapack,” a giant energy storage factory, which will join the already installed electric vehicle unit in the city. The company led by Elon Musk made the announcement during a ceremony in Shanghai. The construction of Tesla’s new battery factory may begin in the third quarter of this year, according to the company itself. The company expects battery production on-site to begin in the second quarter of 2024.
