Comgás Distributor Seeks Natural Gas Aiming to Replace Contracts with Petrobras Set to Expire by the End of 2023. Contracts with the State-Owned Company Generate About 12.8 Million m³/Day for the Company.
The Comgás distributor is launching a public call to purchase natural gas. Controlled by Compass, part of the Cosan group, the company has contracts expiring at the end of the year with Petrobras. The volumes are large, but the expectation is that at least some of the volumes will be contracted again by the state-owned company.

Through the process previously carried out, suppliers can submit their proposals for the free market.
Commercial proposals must be submitted by participants by March 10. It is expected that by July 31, all negotiated contracts will be sent for approval to the Public Services Regulatory Agency of the State of São Paulo, Arsesp.

Considered the largest Brazilian distributor of piped gas, Comgás supplies gas to about 2.3 million people.
The distributor’s concession area includes the São Paulo Metropolitan Region, Campinas Administrative Region, Paraíba Valley, and Baixada Santista.
The differentiated supply regimes provided by Comgás enable more efficient planning for the increase of the natural gas market in the state of São Paulo.
Additionally, through these regimes, it is possible to ensure even greater supply security for this type of material.
Currently, the Gas Company’s Contracts Are Firmed with Two Different Suppliers, Petrobras and Compass
The distributor has two contracts in place with Petrobras, both totaling commitments to purchase approximately 12.8 million m³/day.
The contracts are set to expire by December 31, 2023.
The contract for gas supply by Compass will begin in July 2023. Transportation will be done via the São Paulo Regasification Terminal (TRSP), located at the Port of Santos.
This terminal has a licensed regasification capacity of approximately 14 million m³/day.
In the firm mode, the contracted volume is 3.125 million m³/day. In turn, Compass has secured an agreement to purchase LNG from TotalEnergies, a French company that seeks to integrate the gas pipeline network, serving the Comgás concession area.

- Firm/Flexible with an option to purchase by Comgás, with a firm withdrawal commitment (take or pay) of 70% to 90%;
- Firm, with take or pay of 70% to 90%;
- Flexible with an option to purchase; with take or pay of 100%;
- And, lastly: customized product, under which proponents can present the details of their offers.
