Raízen Begins Construction of First Second-Generation Ethanol Plant in Goiás, with Investment of R$ 1.2 Billion and Creation of One Thousand Jobs.
Last Tuesday, (01/10), the governor of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União), and Raízen marked an important moment by laying the foundation stone of the first second-generation ethanol (E2G) plant in the state. The new plant will be built in the municipality of Jataí and is part of a project with a total investment of R$ 1.2 billion. This significant investment promises to generate more than one thousand direct and indirect jobs in the Goiás region.
Impact of Raízen’s New Ethanol Plant
During the ceremony, the governor emphasized the importance of supporting industries that seek sustainable innovations.
He highlighted the positive impact of the new plant, which will use sugarcane bagasse for ethanol production.

Bottle caps and pine sawdust replace discarded wood in concrete molds, reduce waste, reuse household residues, and create sustainable solutions in Brazilian construction projects.
This approach reduces the need to open new agricultural areas and contributes to carbon sequestration, which is essential for the environment.
The investment in the second-generation ethanol plant is an action that represents an advancement in building a sustainable future.
Caiado stated: “You show Brazil to the world and what I have always believed in my life: science and research. And now you bring to Goiás something only we, Brazilians, produce.”
Construction Details
The ethanol plant will be built in an area adjacent to Raízen’s bioenergy park in Jataí.
The vice president of sugar and renewables at Raízen, Francis Queen, stated that the new ethanol unit is expected to start operation in 2028.
He emphasized that the project reflects Raízen’s commitment to leading the global energy transition through investment in clean technologies.
Raízen’s investment is an important step in building a more sustainable sugar-energy sector.
Queen also highlighted the importance of support from state and municipal governments for undertaking large investments like this one.
The choice of Jataí among 35 possible locations was driven by the incentives offered by the state, which facilitated the construction of the ethanol plant.
Technological Advances by Raízen in Goiás
The second-generation ethanol plant represents a technological milestone for Raízen. The company’s chairman, Rubens Ometto, explained that Raízen is the only company in the world producing second-generation ethanol from sugarcane bagasse.
“It’s a fantastic product, allowing for a 40% increase in ethanol production,” commented Ometto. This ethanol plant will be a great example of what can be achieved with investments aimed at sustainability.
The vice governor, Daniel Vilela, also underscored the innovation brought by the project.
According to him, the announcement of the new plant is an important step for Jataí, placing the city at the forefront of modern and high-tech industry.
The construction of the plant reflects investment in progress and innovation.
The president of the Federation of Industries of the State of Goiás (Fieg) and the Sugar Ethanol Industry Union (Sifaeg), André Luiz Rocha, highlighted that Raízen will bring more technology, jobs, and income to the state.
He expressed gratitude to the government for the partnership in developing the project and constructing the ethanol plant, which is essential for the local economy.
