Logistical Connections Promise to Boost Local Economy
As 2025 approaches, the Dry Port of Quixeramobim, in the Central Sertão of Ceará, continues to be a strategic logistics project for regional cargo.
According to information released by Diário do Nordeste on July 8, 2024, the dry terminal is managed by the state government in partnership with private companies.
Direct negotiations have already begun with giants such as Mercado Livre, Shopee, and Assaí to move goods on a large scale.
Therefore, this structure aims to attract major players to foster local economic development continuously.
Public Investment Stimulates New Phase of Growth
With support from the state government of Ceará, the Dry Port of Quixeramobim has been receiving continuous investments since 2022 as an alternative to the Port of Pecém.
Since then, various companies and public bodies have established partnerships to ensure the construction of warehouses, storage yards, and efficient rail connections.
Thus, according to the Ceará Department of Economic Development, as of July 2024, the works are on schedule.
This increases the confidence of companies like Shopee and Mercado Livre to secure regional logistics contracts.
Moreover, the Assaí Group, which expanded its distribution center in Maracanaú since 2023, is studying the integration of the Dry Port into its network.
Integrated Logistics Strengthens Economic Interiorization
Because of its strategic location, the Dry Port of Quixeramobim serves as a link between inland municipalities and major consumption centers.
E-commerce companies seek to reduce logistical costs and accelerate deliveries to towns in the Ceará sertão.
Still in 2024, technicians from the National Land Transportation Agency (ANTT) inspected the facilities and validated the storage capacity.
The connection with the Transnordestina Railway was also inspected, expanding logistical possibilities for the interior.
With this approval, logistics operators foresee a substantial increase in regional cargo movement by 2025.
According to reports, this flow is expected to grow by 30% in the next operating semester.

Idle for 40 years, the 1,757-kilometer railway receives R$ 5 billion in two consecutive investments, reopens construction sites in the Sertão, begins partial operation in Piauí, and promises to reduce soybean and ore freight by up to 60%, connecting Brazil’s poorest interior to the international market for the first time with competitive infrastructure.
-
While in Brazil the Transnordestina has been waiting for 67 years, China began drilling 29 tunnels through the mountains of Central Asia to build the first railway connecting three countries — it’s 523 km, US$ 4.7 billion, and 5,000 workers cutting rock at 3,000 meters of altitude
-
India is paving 1,350 kilometers of road with 8 lanes to connect its two largest cities — the drive between Delhi and Mumbai will be reduced from 24 hours to 12, and 929 kilometers are already completed.
-
Norway is drilling 27 kilometers of rock 392 meters below the bottom of a fjord to build the world’s largest and deepest underwater road tunnel — when completed, a 21-hour journey will be reduced to 10.
Private Partnerships Attract More Companies
While the Dry Port strengthens its physical structure, management invests in commercial agreements to consolidate operations.
Therefore, Mercado Livre indicated in June 2024 that it intends to establish a distribution hub on site.
This structure expands the network that today heavily relies on the urban centers of Fortaleza and Maracanaú.
Similarly, Shopee has begun discussions to integrate regional suppliers, prioritizing shorter and more efficient routes.
Thus, the Assaí Group, which has expanded partnerships with rural producers from the sertão since the first half of 2024, is negotiating exclusive spaces at the terminal.
Expectations Are to Make Quixeramobim a Regional Reference
In addition to moving cargo, the Dry Port of Quixeramobim generates jobs and income for the local population, boosting commerce.
According to data from the Department of Economic Development, by December 2024, around 400 direct jobs will be created at the terminal.
The expectation is for expansion to over 1,000 jobs by 2025, consistently strengthening the local economy.
Authorities estimate that the regional economy will strengthen, decentralizing the logistical flow from the coast to the interior.
Thus, if all contracts with Mercado Livre, Shopee, and Assaí are confirmed, the terminal will become a regional reference.
