See How Sodexo Employees at Sea Experience the Junina Celebrations with Typical Food and Warmth, Even Though They Are Away from Dry Land

Tradition That Strengthens Bonds at Sea

Since 2022, Sodexo On-Site Brazil, specialized in food and facilities services, has transformed offshore platforms and ships into true party grounds during the month of June. Thus, even kilometers from the coast, the Junina parties come to life at sea.

For many employees who spend 15 to 30 days on board, away from their homes and families, these moments bring warmth and well-being. The care in every detail is noticed and highly valued, according to the participants themselves.

Party Requires Planning and Dedication

Throwing a Junina party on an offshore vessel requires more than just good ideas. Therefore, a rigorous logistical planning is essential.

This means that typical ingredients need to be shipped in advance. Similarly, the spaces on board are adapted to set up game stalls, decorative bonfires, and even the traditional “kissing booth”, with messages transmitted through the ship’s sound system.

Additionally, every two weeks, two teams of attendants take turns to ensure that all groups on board participate. And, of course, the collaboration is widespread:

  • Drink servers prepare the beverages;
  • Bakers take care of the cakes and snacks;
  • Chefs create typical main dishes;
  • And even the clients contribute with prizes and decorations.

Testimonials Reinforce the Emotional Impact

Renan Lemos, chef-instructor at Sodexo and a reference in offshore operations, with over 16 years of experience, shares:
“The Junina Party is highly anticipated offshore. For many, it represents a rare moment of connection with the culture on dry land,” he highlights.

He further emphasizes: “Even in the middle of the ocean, we manage to bring this sense of belonging and joy to the crew”.

Menus Adapted to Cultural Diversity

Another essential detail is the menu, which varies according to the profile of the crew on each unit. Thus:

  • If there are many Bahian employees on board, dishes like mungunzá, canjiquinha, and cuscuz predominate.
  • When the crew is primarily from the South, recipes like cuca and cakes of Italian and German origin appear.
  • And for the Americans on board, barbecues and hot dogs with special sauces are prepared.

Thus, food planning begins weeks in advance, with prior shipping of dry and frozen supplies. This process ensures that everything is available at the time of the party.

Tradition That Strengthens Well-Being

Finally, it is important to highlight that these initiatives demonstrate Sodexo’s attention not only to food but also to the emotional and cultural well-being of workers on platforms.

In fact, the Junina Party offshore reflects Sodexo’s ongoing commitment to quality and humanized care in all operations.
Thus, tradition and well-being sail together, strengthening bonds between teams and promoting positive experiences in challenging environments.
