Sol do Agreste Complex Begins Final Commissioning and Advances Solar Energy Expansion in Pernambuco, According to ANEEL.
The advancement of the Sol do Agreste Complex, one of the largest solar energy projects in the Northeast, marks a new stage in the Brazilian energy transition.
ANEEL confirmed that the solar park has entered the final commissioning phase, starting operational tests of the last six plants this week.
Located in Pernambuco, between the municipalities of São Caetano and Tacaimbó, the project is expected to begin commercial operations in May 2026, establishing itself as a regional landmark in the electrical sector.

Solar panels at sea can generate up to 12% more energy than land-based plants, study finds: Researchers from Taiwan discovered that offshore solar panels take advantage of the natural cooling of water to increase electrical efficiency, reduce heat losses, and expand renewable energy production in regions with limited available land space.
Billion-Dollar Investment and Strategic Relevance for Pernambuco
With an investment of R$ 823 million, the Sol do Agreste Complex represents an important move to expand the renewable generation offer in Pernambuco.
The project positions itself as an essential vector to boost the state’s competitiveness in the national energy map.
Furthermore, the magnitude of the park highlights the growing role of solar energy in the Brazilian electricity matrix.
Through technical tests, the performance and operational safety of the complex are assessed before its definitive entry into the National Interconnected System (SIN).
Strengthened Electrical Structure with New Substation and Transmission Line
The project includes a new 34.5/230 kV substation and a 230 kV transmission line, with 1.3 km in length.
This expands the capacity for evacuating production and contributes to the stability of the regional electrical grid.
This connection stage is considered critical in the commissioning process, as required by sector regulations.
Commissioning Marks Start of Final Phase Before Commercial Operation
The commissioning process, according to sector technicians, involves a series of tests that check everything from equipment performance to the interaction of the plants with the electrical system.
ANEEL emphasized that “the start of operational tests of the last six plants confirms the progress of the project and adherence to the planned schedule.”
Although the schedule is challenging, the regulatory agency reinforces that the park is on track within the mandatory stages for full operational entry, expected for May 2026.
Until then, tests will continue to evaluate parameters such as stability, safety, energy quality, and solar inverter performance.
Growth of Solar Energy Boosts Pernambuco
Pernambuco has reinforced its prominence in the Northeast regarding renewable energy.
The Sol do Agreste Complex adds to a range of solar projects that have been increasing the state’s installed capacity and attracting new private investments.
Thus, the commercial operation of the complex in 2026 is expected to help diversify the state’s energy matrix.
On the other hand, the increased energy offer strengthens the business environment and stimulates the arrival of large industries and enterprises.
A Milestone for the Northeast and for Brazil
As the commissioning process approaches completion, the Sol do Agreste Complex is established as one of the most relevant solar energy projects in the country.
The advancement of the park in Pernambuco thus demonstrates the Northeast’s potential to lead the energy transition and enhance the competitiveness of the Brazilian electrical matrix.
