The State, Which Ranks Fifth Among the Largest Wind Energy Producers in the Country, and Already Houses Component Factories, Now Wants to Build the Largest Plant in South America
The state of Piauí, which is among the largest producers of clean energy in Brazil, will build a new plant called Lagoa dos Ventos, between the municipalities of Dom Inocêncio, Lagoa do Barro, and Queimada Nova, in the south of the state.
The wind farm will complement the existing wind energy generation network and is expected to start operating in 2021. Also See! Bolsonaro Wants to Install Solar Plants in the Esplanade of Ministries.
It is estimated that the new wind farm will generate 600 direct jobs in the south of Piauí, which already has a factory for wind towers, Nordex/Acciona, located in the municipality of Lagoa do Barro, 540 km from Teresina.
The factory, which has been operating since 2018, produces concrete towers and provides equipment to be used in the wind farms in Piauí, employing more than 400 people.

Prominent Role
The Secretary of Mining and Energy of the State, Howzembergson de Britto, declared that within two years the state will have the largest wind energy generation plant in South America.
The secretary also announced that the state will provide all the necessary infrastructure to ensure the operation of the project, as the company that will manage the new wind farm is expected to bring some benefits to the region, such as a hospital, school, or other urban facilities.
The new wind plant will confirm the vocation of the state of Piauí in producing clean energy. All the energy produced will be fed into the system and can be purchased by other states, just like the energy produced in hydroelectric plants.
The state has played a prominent role in energy generation, and another sector that will demand investments is solar energy in the region of São João do Piauí.
