The Offshore Wind Farm Vineyard Wind 1, A Joint Project Between Avangrid And Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), So Far Highlighted By Investment In Offshore Wind Energy.
The offshore wind farm Vineyard Wind 1, a joint project between Avangrid and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), has created 937 union jobs over two years of construction, fulfilling almost double the commitment to create 500 union jobs, as described in the Project Labor Agreement (PLA).
Being built off the coast of Massachusetts, the Vineyard Wind 1 project of 806 MW has created a total of 1,989 jobs and delivered US$ 590 million in total economic output for the Massachusetts economy since the start of its development phase in 2017, according to the developers.
The findings were presented in the second annual report of the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER), ‘Vineyard Wind 1 Impact on Jobs and Economic Output’ , compiled by UMass Dartmouth and Springline Research Group.

90 billion barrels of oil, 1.669 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, and 84% of probable reserves in offshore areas are under the Arctic, and the melting ice that opens maritime routes and exposes this energy treasure is turning the North Pole into a strategic dispute between the USA, Russia, China, and Canada for oil, gas, navigation, and military power.

Petrobras announces an investment of R$ 2.8 billion in Amazonas to expand natural gas production in Urucu and modernize the river fleet, boosting energy, logistics, and the regional economy with new vessels adapted for operation in the Amazon.
During the second year of construction, the report notes a total of 890 individual union workers on the project, in addition to 197 who worked on the project in the first year.
The report also found that 71.5% of the project’s union workers are residents of southeastern Massachusetts.
The assessment uses employment and spending data collected from 2017 to September 2023 to measure the progress of Vineyard Wind.
“When we complete the construction of Vineyard Wind 1, Avangrid will have created over 1,000 union jobs and enough clean energy for 400,000 homes and businesses in Massachusetts. The report reflects the enormous potential of offshore wind energy, and we are proud of the ties we have built with unions and the skilled workforce in Massachusetts,” said Avangrid CEO Pedro Azagra.
Vineyard Wind began offshore construction in late 2022, achieved steel in the water in June, and completed the country’s first offshore substation in July.
In May 2023, the project received its first shipment of project components at the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal and began turbine installation in September 2023.
Currently, the project has installed five turbines, of the total 62 planned GE Haliade-X 13 MW for the site, and is on track to deliver its first power, the developers said.
