Copergás Reaches 100 Thousand Households Connected to Natural Gas and Establishes Itself Among the Six Main Distributors in the Country
The Pernambuco Gas Company (Copergás) has reached an important milestone: 100 thousand residential clients connected to its natural gas network. This number establishes the company as a reference in the sector, being the first in the Northeast to achieve this mark. Now, it is among the six best distributors in the country.
The advancement reflects the growth of the residential market in gas consumption. Although the industry is still the largest consumer, households are gaining ground.
Continuous supply, without the need for refills, safety, and lower environmental impact are among the factors driving this expansion.

Braskem’s new generation tankers will cross over 5,500 nautical miles between the U.S. and Brazil, reduce CO₂ emissions by 30%, and transport naphtha with modern engines, an optimized hull, and a focus on at-sea efficiency on a strategic route.
Additionally, natural gas is being incorporated into new developments, from popular residences to high-end properties. Projects from the Minha Casa Minha Vida program, for example, are already adopting the system as an item of comfort and modernity.
According to Guilherme Cavalcanti, Secretary of Economic Development, natural gas is transforming the daily lives of families, industry, and transportation. For him, it is a change that brings sustainable economic and urban development.
Copergás is following an expansion plan that combines the growth of the network in the Metropolitan Region of Recife with the internalization of the service. This has led natural gas to new neighborhoods, smaller towns, and public housing developments.
Only in 2024, the company saw a 15.7% increase in the number of customers and an 8.7% growth in the average annual sales volume, reaching 23.5 thousand m³ per day.
“What was previously concentrated in large condominiums in the Metropolitan Region is now expanding to popular neighborhoods, inland cities, and housing projects from the Government of Pernambuco. We are democratizing access to natural gas,” says Bruno Costa, president of Copergás.
