The date, which at the federal level has the status of an optional day off — according to MGI Ordinance No. 11.460/2025, from the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services — can be transformed into a holiday by states and municipalities through their own legislation. With the celebration on a weekday close to the weekend, the possibility of a long weekend extends the break until Sunday for a good part of Brazilian workers, according to information from ig.

What changes for civil servants and private sector workers

The suspension of activities is automatic in the federal public sector. Operations are maintained only in services considered essential, such as public security and health. Furthermore, the federal government has defined Friday, June 5, as an optional day off for civil servants, paving the way for a four-day long weekend.
