Allison and Nick invested $45,000 in transforming the 12-meter vehicle, reused materials from junkyards, left their careers, and have been living in the mobile home with their two dogs since 2021
Allison and Nick bought a school bus for $5,000 in a spontaneous bid on eBay in 2018, and spent another $45,000 to turn it into a complete home on wheels. With no prior experience, they learned the renovation steps through YouTube and adopted the vehicle as their home in 2021.
School bus for $5,000 required complete renovation
The 12-meter vehicle needed to be internally dismantled before receiving the new structure. The couple removed all the old insulation and sought economical alternatives to reduce costs during the transformation.
Among the reused parts was the front door, found in a trailer junkyard. Other materials and objects were scavenged from scrap yards, helping Allison and Nick to assemble the interior without relying exclusively on new products.

YouTube became a guide for the couple during the bus transformation project
Neither of them mastered renovations of this scale when the work began. To understand how to execute the different stages, they turned to YouTube for “practically everything,” as they explained in a video posted on TikTok.
The transformation cost $45,000, nine times the initial amount paid for the bus. The process was documented on social media and accumulated millions of views. One of the videos, which presents the project’s story, reached nearly 500,000 views.

House on wheels has complete bathroom and bathtub
The result includes residential environments distributed inside the old school bus. Among the elements highlighted by followers are the organization of the furniture, the cozy look, and a complete bathroom equipped with a bathtub.
After completing the renovation, Allison and Nick left their careers, sold their belongings, and rented out the house where they lived. In 2021, they started traveling and living in the bus accompanied by their two dogs.
The transformation received praise for the decoration and the arrangement of the spaces. There were also comments about the challenges of driving a large residence on roads shared with other vehicles.
