State May Experience A Historical Transformation! An Exploration Promises A 61% Increase In GDP And 54 Thousand New Jobs.

The exploration of the Equatorial Margin, considered a strategic priority for Brazil, could transform the economy of Amapá and other states in the North and Northeast.

A study by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) estimates that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Amapá could grow 61.2%, in addition to generating 54 thousand new jobs.

The initiative was the topic of a seminar held at the Legislative Assembly of Amapá last Friday (14), highlighting the opportunities and challenges of this energy potential.

The Equatorial Margin, which extends from Amapá to Rio Grande do Norte, has been called the “new pre-salt”, as its estimated production capacity may reach 1.1 million barrels of oil per day.

Given this potential, the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) included the exploration of the region as one of the priorities for 2025.

If realized, this discovery could boost the Brazilian economy and reduce dependence on fuel imports.

Economic And Social Potential For Amapá

The impact of oil exploration in the Equatorial Margin could bring significant changes to Amapá.

In addition to job creation and substantial GDP increases, revenue from royalties could drive investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

Municipalities such as Oiapoque, Calçoene, Amapá, Macapá, Itaubal, and Santana are expected to be the most benefited, with growth in commerce and improvements in public services.

According to the Minister of Integration and Regional Development, Waldez Góes, exploration needs to start as soon as possible.

If we do not initiate this process quickly, Brazil’s economic development will be compromised. This affects everything from industry to agribusiness, as all these activities depend on energy,” he stated.

With the advancement of research and the approval of projects, the expectation is that the first barrels will be extracted in the next decade.

Petrobras And Environmental Responsibility

Petrobras leads the research in the Equatorial Margin and arrives in the region with a solid track record of innovation and environmental responsibility.

“Petrobras brings a lot of scientific information, knowledge, and responsibility.

It is one of the most respected companies in the world in this sector, both from an environmental and technological perspective,” Góes highlighted.

Despite the promises of development, there are concerns about environmental impacts.

The Equatorial Margin houses sensitive ecosystems and communities that depend on artisanal fishing.

However, according to Góes, President Lula has already expressed support for exploration, provided that all environmental obligations are respected.

Amapá has all the conditions to lead this process because it is the only Brazilian state that is negative in carbon emissions, meaning it captures more gases than it emits,” the minister explained.

Experts argue that, if applied with cutting-edge technology and strict control standards, exploration can coexist with environmental preservation.

Opportunities For Various Sectors

The possibility of economic growth has excited representatives from different sectors of Amapá society.

The president of the Federation of Fishermen and Aquaculture Farmers of the State of Amapá (FEPAP), Leidinaldo Luiz Gama de Paula, highlighted the importance of the activity for workers in fishing.

Fishing goes hand in hand with development. Oil exploration could be a turning point for our state,” he affirmed.

The merchant Nilson Nogueira, who sells açaí, believes the initiative will open new horizons.

Amapá still does not have a strong economic base to drive new policies. The population has long awaited development that makes us competitive with other states,” he said.

Additionally, expectations are high among young people and workers seeking new opportunities.

The fish vendor Abmael de Souza sees exploration as a chance for professional qualification.

This will be a great opportunity for young people to study and work in the field, as the activity will require specialized labor,” he pointed out.

Consequently, universities and technical institutions are already discussing the creation of courses aimed at the oil industry.

How The Exploration Process Will Work

The exploration project in the Equatorial Margin will be divided into stages.

First, research and prospecting will be conducted to map the region’s real potential.

Next, the extraction and commercialization of oil will begin.

According to Góes, the revenues collected will be allocated to strategic investments in the state.
With proper planning, Amapá can reach a new level of development and establish itself as a national energy hub.

Although there are still challenges to overcome, the expectation is that the exploration of the Equatorial Margin will become a milestone in Amapá’s economy.

This would enable sustainable economic growth and new opportunities for the population.
